New T-Shirt: Will Work for Film

Check out our latest Will Work for Film T-Shirt design for your analog roots. It’s shown above in dark heather gray, which is my personal favor color and fabric blend. It’s nice and thin for staying cool in the summer. These run a bit small, so if you are trying to decide between one size or another, go bigger.

There is also a color version of the Will Work for Film t-shirt, which gives you some brighter options if neutral colors just aren’t your thing. These are available in both men and women sizes.

Canon 5D Mark IV vs. Rebel T3i: Why Photographers Hate Being Asked What Camera They Use

How many of you are asked regularly what camera you use? Because just anyone can buy a Canon 5D Mark IV from B&H Photo and shoot “professional” photos, right?

The guys from Mango Street Lab made the above video to prove the point. They brought their friend Justin, who’s not a pro photographer, in to use their Canon 5D Mark IV and Canon L lens to shoot a model in a studio setting. They shot the same model in the same space with a Canon Rebel T3i and a 18-55mm kit lens and the $200 40mm f/2.8 lens.

Justin did good but, as we saw, the basics in composition and perspective left a lot to be desired when you view his images next to the pro photographers’ shots. The pro shooters also did Justin a huge favor by providing him with great lighting, which is already setting up anyone with a “good” shot. I think if they put him outdoors in a more challenging lighting situation, we’d see even a bigger difference.

The point of the video is well taken though. Focus on your craft and then you will know what you really “need” to buy next.

Apple Updates MacBook Pro w/ New Processors & Faster Graphics

Apple updated the MacBook Pro this week, along with a number of other products in its lineup. The notable upgrade points include a Intel’s faster seventh-generation Kaby Lake processors, along with updated graphics.

The graphics bump from the Intel Iris 540/550 to the Intel Iris Plus 640/650 in the 13″ models. The MacBook Pro 15″ models jump from the AMD Radeon Pro 450/455 to the Radeon Pro 555/560.

Overall, the jumps appear in specs and performance seem to be rather mild. Geekbench shows up to a 20% jump over the 2016 model performance in dedicated tests; however, the difference in real world benefits are likely negligible.

The 13″ MacBook Pro starts at $1,299 (or $1,799 if you want the Touch Bar), while the 15″ MacBook Pro starts at $2,399. You can order the new models now on Apple.com or here at B&H Photo.

New T-Shirt: #Filmmaker 8mm Camera Design

This week’s new t-shirt is something for the video shooters. It features a retro 8mm camera simple design with #filmmaker as the only text. This is a premium fabric, which I recommend ordering a size larger than you normally would. You can find the #Filmmaker t-shirt here on Amazon.com.

For the photographers, we still have the 70-200mm f/2.8 Technical Drawing t-shirt, which is proving to be a hit. Also, the “I’m just here to take pictures” shirt is my personal favorite and is a pretty popular choice. Again, I like the dark heather gray color for both the look and feel.

I know people outside the US want to buy these shirts and I promise that option is coming. I really appreciate everyone’s interest and especially those of you who have reached out to me directly. I’m sorry I don’t have an option for you yet, but I’m working on that. Stay tuned.
