Over the past few weeks, I have been testing the new Nokia Lumia 928 – specifically, the camera portion of the phone. Of course, Apple’s iPhone has been the most used camera in the world for several years now. Apple’s ecosystem of apps is a large part of this, but Android has been pushing hard, and many of the great photography apps are now available on Android.

Perfectly Clear version 2.0 is now available for Android. Perfectly Clear’s patented auto-correct technology is used throughout the photo industry from iPhone apps to commercial kiosk photo printers.
The new Android app includes the popular Beautify preset for photos of people, along with several capture modes, such as HDR, Panorama, Burst and Portrait modes.
Perfectly Clear 2.0 for Android is available in the Google Play Store for $2.99.
Smartphone cameras are getting serious. Just as I’ve been working on a review of the Lumia 920 (preview: the camera is solid), Nokia goes and releases the new Lumia 1020.
The Lumia 1020 features a 41MP PureView sensor that provides the camera with a 6x zoom while still maintaining decent resolution. Additionally, the Lumia 1020 includes a Xenon flash bulb instead of the common LED “flash” found on smartphones today (iPhone 5 included). Lots of leaks in recent days for the upcoming Sony i1 smartphone suggest that it is just around the corner. Even before the phone’s official announcement, it is being hailed in some circles as the new camera phone king. If the rumors of the i1’s camera specs are to believed, that may very well be the case. Triggertrap has updated its iOS app and added a new piece of hardware that allows the app to trigger flashes instead of the camera. The results allow the Triggertrap app and flash triggers to be easily used for high-speed photography captures with a response time as low as 5 milliseconds. [Read more…]
The wildly popular, retro photo sharing service, Instagram, now allows users to record video and share it on your account. While this feature is similar to Twitter’s Vine app, you get a 15 second cap on Instagram as opposed to 6 seconds on Vine. [Read more…]
SmugMug has launched SmugMug for Android in the Google Play App Store.
SmugMug actually acquired a popular third party app, SmugFolio and hired the app’s developer, Brian Wood.
SmugFolio is now called “SmugMug for Android” and includes some new, exciting features including the ability to browse SmugMug user accounts without needing to log into the app. This is a great way to give friends and family a way to browse your public galleries on their phones and tablets.
SmugMug for Android is available for free here on the Google Play Store.
Several images of the upcoming Nokia EOS Windows Phone have leaked out and make it out to be a very camera-heavy phone. The Nokia EOS should not be associated with the Canon EOS brand; however, if that’s the final name of the product, I can’t imagine that Canon will let it slide without a prompt trademark infringement lawsuit – particularly given how the camera seems to be such a big feature of this phone.
