Nikon D5000 Review at Photo Review

May 2, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Photo Review has posted a review of the Nikon D5000.

Exposures were well-positioned, colours looked natural and saturation was slightly elevated but not to the extent that pictures looked excessively colour-rich with the default standard Picture Control setting.

Nikon Coolpix P90 Review at Trusted Reviews

May 1, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Trusted Reviews has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix P90.

The Nikon Coolpix P90 is a superb camera, certainly one of the best super-zoom bridge cameras on the market, with plenty to appeal to the enthusiast while still retaining some ease of use for the novice.

Nikon D3x Review at PhotographyBLOG

April 26, 2009 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of the Nikon D3x.

In comparison with the D3, viewing images from that and the D3x side by side, the former’s images are noticeably smoother and as we mentioned at that time of our initial review, more film-like while the D3x’s do reveal more clearly defined detail – particularly on close ups – when viewed at 100%.

Nikon D400 and D750 Speculation

April 18, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Digital Rev has a new, suggestive article entitled The Nikon D400 & D750 Revealed or Just Viral Marketing?  While the title would lead you to believe that there’s been some kind of leak or specific promotion on the D400 and/or D750 (neither of which have been confirmed by Nikon), the post appears to simply be Digital Rev’s take on recent rumors, along with some fancy mockups and spec/wish list.

I’ve had several emails to this article, suggesting that it’s a leak of some sort.  Upon second glance, it seems to just be a racy title with no evidence of either of these cameras being revealed by Nikon, or evidence of viral marketing on behalf of Nikon.  In essence, it appears to simply be speculation.

We’re still waiting for something solid on the Nikon D400, Nikon D750 or Nikon D800.  Stay tuned.

Nikon D40 and D40x Firmware Updates

April 15, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Nikon has released firmware updates for the D40 and D40x DSLRs.

Nikon D40 firmware updates:

The following issues has been resolved in A firmware version 1.12:

With firmware Ver. 1.11 and earlier, the number of images that could be captured (battery performance) when an EN-EL9a was used was less than when an EN-EL9 was used. By upgrading A firmware to Ver. 1.12, EN-EL9a performance is maximized so that more images can be captured (battery performance) when an EN-EL9a is used than when an EN-EL9 is used.

Number of shots possible (battery performance) with EN-EL9a (1,080 mAh)

  • Single-frame shooting mode: Approximately 510 shots (with testing according to CIPA standards*)
  • Continuous shooting mode: Approximately 2,400 shots (with testing according to Nikon standards*)
