Nikon D90 Review at Digital Camera Info

October 15, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Digital Camera Info has published a review of the Nikon D90.

Setting video aside, though, there’s an awful lot to like about this camera, from its fast burst mode to its fine low-light performance for flash-free photos and a Live View mode that’s still not perfect, but does prove comfortable and convenient in certain shooting situations.

Nikon DSLRs Get 2nd Consecutive JD Power Award

October 15, 2008 By Eric Reagan

The market share gaps are shrinking between Canon, Nikon and Sony.  Nikon has made the right moves over the past couple years in their DSLR lineup as is evident in the JD Power and Associates customer satisfaction award two years running now.

Nikon Press Conference on October 22 Could Be “BIG”

October 14, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Seems Nikon’s BIG news may be out of the bag rather soon – say, October 22?  According to Zoom, Nikon has given notice of a press release for October 22, which will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark. If true, I imagine we’ll be hearing more from other parts of the world soon.

Nikon’s product secrecy has a terrible track record lately and I wouldn’t be surprise to see this next product leak out in the next few days.

What do you think?  Is it the Nikon MX format?  Is it the Nikon D3x?  Is it something else?  Or are we all having our legs pulled?

Nikon D90 Reviews at PhotographyBLOG and DP Review

October 13, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG and DP Review have published reviews of the Nikon D90.

PhotographyBLOG – The Nikon D90 is a difficult camera to rate. When viewed as a ‘traditional’ SLR, it is simply an excellent camera that I very much enjoyed using. All the frequently used functions have direct controls assigned to them, be it aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, file quality, drive mode, AF mode, AE Lock – you name it.

DP Review – We described the D80 as a photographer’s camera and, despite the addition of video, the D90 appears to share that same ethos. On a purely specification level, it’s a highly competitive piece of kit, but it’s the way the features have been chosen and put together that make it the camera that it is.

Nikon D3 Review at Neocamera

October 11, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Neocamera has published a short hands-on review of the Nikon D3.

The first impression from the D3 comes from its size and weight. At around 1.5kg (3 lbs) with battery, this is one of the heaviest DSLR. Its integrated vertical grip and large pentaprism make this camera one of the biggest. It feels built-like-a-tank.

Nikon D3x Rumor Rekindled

October 8, 2008 By Eric Reagan

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any rumblings about a D3x.  I was beginning to think those rumors had died off in favor of the Nikon MX format rumors.

Not so fast, says a Nikon USA’s PR department through what I’m sure is solid 3rd hand info at DPR forums…

  • 24.4 megapixels
  • 9 frames per second
  • Full frame w/ crop capabilities
  • $6499.99 USD
  • same body as D3
  • December announcement/release?

Thom Hogan added to the discussion:

And people wonder why Nikon offers a doubled buffer for the D3 ;~)

I will note, however, that several prior rumors from as old as last October said the D3x was 12 months away.  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how merry Christmas turns out to be for all you Nikon shooters.

Nikon D700 Review at DP Review

October 7, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DP Review has posted a review of the Nikon D700.

On top of the saving you also get a built-in flash (certainly useful for some) and integrated sensor cleaning. Specification is one thing though and image quality and performance are another. Luckily though the D700 is on a similar level as the D3 in these areas as well.

Nikon Coolpix S600 Review at Imaging Resource

October 7, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Imaging Resource has published a review of the Nikon Coolpix S600.

With its Face-Priority AF mode, adjustable metering, white balance, color and useful post-capture tools, the Nikon S600 has some good features for travelers and family photographers, whether novices or advanced amateurs. Pocket and user friendly, the Coolpix S600 is a good, economical offering from Nikon.

Nikon D90 Review at Camera Labs

October 4, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Camera Labs has published a review of the Nikon D90.

The AF speed, accuracy and speed of handling are as good as any DSLR in its class, and the boost in continuous shooting a real benefit to action photographers.

Nikon D90 Review at Luminous Landscape

October 4, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Luminous Landscape has posted a review of the Nikon D90 – primarily with regard to its video capabilities.

This is clearly a first generation product. Nikon saw an opportunity to add video capability to the DSLR and did so in a simple manner with little intention of creating a new type of hybrid camera. The D90 is a stills camera (and a very good one) at a very reasonable price, that happens to also shoot moderate quality video.
