New Olympus PEN Cameras Incoming, Teaser Site Launched

June 26, 2011 By Eric Reagan

The Olympus E-PM1, E-PL3 and E-P3 are expected to be launched later this week.  So, it makes sense that we are seeing a teaser campaign from Olympus, which is (right now) just a short video of a cloth draped over a camera.  The corner of the fabric lifts up, revealing a tiny portion of what has to be a new PEN camera, and then the video cuts off.

Of course, images the E-PM1 have already been leaked – and it is tiny.  [Read more…]

Olympus PEN Your Short 48 Hour Film Contest

April 28, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Olympus has been rolling out the results of its 48 hour short film contest, which was part of the 2011 Vail Film Festival.  “During the contest, 19 teams of filmmakers from around the country were challenged to create a film, from start to finish, in a 48-hour timeframe with the powerfully simple Olympus PEN camera and a variety of lenses and accessories.”  Olympus is using this opportunity to pimp its HD-shooting PEN cameras, like the new Olympus E-PL2.

This week, Olympus revealed the runner-up short film, Der Bürgermeister.  You can check it out, along with some commentary from the filmmakers, below. [Read more…]

Olympus TOUGH TG-810 is “Crushproof”

March 2, 2011 By Eric Reagan

The Olympus TG-810 is the latest in the TOUGH lineup.  As the flagship camera in this line, Olympus has now upped the ante, claiming that the TG-810 is “crushproof.”  Other adjectives that describe this camera’s ruggedness include, waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof and scratch resistant.  Frankly, I’m a little disappointed that Olympus makes a camera that is crushproof, yet only scratch resistant…

All jokes aside, the TG-810 leads headlines Olympus’ lineup of rugged cameras with a 14MP sensor, 5x optical zoom (28-140mm equivalent), 720p HD video capture and a nice 3-inch, 920k-dot resolution LCD.  Additionally, the TG-810 sports a GPS unit and electronic compass, which makes it even more of an outdoor-ready camera.

The TG-810 should be available in April at an initial retail price of $399.99.  Check availability on Amazon.com.

More details in the press release below. [Read more…]

The SZ-30MR should be available in April at an initial retail price of $399.99.  Check availability on Amazon.com.

Olympus SZ-10 18x Superzoom

February 8, 2011 By Eric Reagan

The Olympus SZ-10 is a 14MP superzoom camera, sporting a 18x optical zoom lens (28-504mm equivalent).   The SZ-10 also features a high resolution 3-inch LCD (460k-dot res) and captures 720p HD video.

Perhaps the biggest feature on the SZ-10 is the fact that it shrank from past superzoom models.  The camera is quite compact for your typical superzoom camera model, measuring only 1.5-inches thick.

The Olympus SZ-10 carries a retail price tag of $249.99 and should be available in March.  Check availability on Amazon.com.
