Canon IVY Rec Camera Ships October 20

October 13, 2019 By Eric Reagan

Back in January at CES 2019, Canon showed off several concept cameras – one of which turned into the Canon IVY Rec outdoor camera built around a carabiner design and quasi-launched via a limited pre-order Indigogo campaign. The Canon IVY Rec is now set to ship on October 20 for $129.

It offers a very simple design with limited controls, including no display or traditional viewfinder. It features a 13MP CMOS sensor and 1080/60p video capture. Wireless connectivity through the free Canon Mini Cam app gives you camera control and image transfer functionality.

It comes in Avocado (green), Dragonfruit (pink), and Riptide (blue) colors. You can find the Canon IVY Rec camera here at B&H Photo and here on Amazon.com.

Canon EOS R Images and Specs Leaked; Coming Sept. 5th

September 3, 2018 By Eric Reagan

The Canon EOS R is the name of the upcoming full frame mirrorless camera that has been rumored for years. Now, it looks like official specs and images have leaked out at a number of sources online.

The Canon EOS R appears that it will use a new mount, the RF mount, and it will require an adapter in order to use EF lenses with it, which is contrary to previous rumors and speculation. Inside, the camera features a 30.3MP full frame CMOS sensor along with Canon’s famous Dual Pixel AF system. [Read more…]

Hands-On with the Light L16 Computational Camera

November 2, 2017 By Eric Reagan

I had the opportunity to handle and shoot a bit with the new Light L16 camera at an event in New York last week while I was in town for PhotoPlus. The event seemed to be put on for Light L16 pre-order customers and some industry and press members. While there, I was able to walk around with a Light L16 to try it out.

My first impression was that it was a little bigger than I expected. It’s probably not fair but I imagined something close to a large cell phone; however, the L16 is definitely bulkier in length and girth. That said, I still was able to carry it in my back pocket – although that’s probably not something I would recommend if you are shelling out $2,000 for one of these on pre-order.

I’ve watched Light from afar over the past couple of years. I haven’t followed along with every bit of the news and announcements that have happened since it was originally shown as a pre-order campaign. At the time, I thought the camera was going to be the next big thing and would shake the camera industry once again. After using it for an hour or so, I’m less sure of that. [Read more…]

Canon Unveils the ME20F-SH Cinema Kit

April 14, 2016 By Eric Reagan

Canon ME20F-SH-10

When Canon announced the ME20F-SH camera last year, its rated ISO 4,000,000 spec blew us away. Now, Canon is extending the functionality of the camera with a ME20F-SH Cinema Kit option (something users had already been doing anyway).

The new ME20F-SH Cinema Kit option includes: [Read more…]

Impossible Project Unveils the I-1 Instant Camera

April 12, 2016 By Eric Reagan

Impossible Project I-1

Impossible Project just announced its very first camera, the I-1, which uses Polaroid 600 film.

Impossible Project is currently the only manufacturer of Polaroid 600-type film and there hasn’t been a new 600-type camera released in years.

The I-1 steps up the capabilities of what we’re accustomed to having in instant film cameras like those older Polaroids and even the current Fujifilm Instax cameras. It can be controlled by a smart device over Bluetooth connection to adjust aperture, shutter speed and flash settings. It can also be triggered remotely from the app. Notably, the I-1 includes a built-in ring flash and autofocus. [Read more…]

Fujifilm Instax 210 Wide-format Instant Film Camera Review

July 23, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Fujifilm Instax 210 Review-2

The Fujifilm Instax 210 is one of the few wide-format instant film cameras on the market today. I picked one up a couple months ago for around $80 with the intent of capturing some fun analog photos this summer.

And it’s been a real hit all around. Every time I break it out around friends or family, I get nothing but positive vibes. In today’s world of a bajillion Instagram photos on everyone’s phone, there’s something special about handing your friend or family a physical print that exists only as that single print.
