Sony Cybershot W150 Review at DP Expert

June 13, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Sony Cybershot W150

DP Expert has posted a review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-W150.

We are impressed. The black model that we had for testing is handsome. It has a high quality feel and appearance. The inclusion of an optical viewfinder is a plus, even if it is small and restricted in the coverage of image area.

Nikon D60 Review at Imaging Resource

June 13, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Imaging Resource has posted a review of the 10.1 megapixel Nikon D60.

Like the D40x before it, the Nikon D60 is a real gem. Consumers should want one, intermediate photographers should want one, and pros would do well to carry one too. The Nikon D60 is one of the finest “family” cameras on the market, easily upholding the standards of its predecessors, which is a tall order.

I couldn’t agree more with Imaging Resource’s assessment (see PB’s Nikon D60 Review).  For even more news and reviews on the D60, check out Photography Bay’s Nikon D60 Reviews and Resources page.

Sony DSC-W110 Review at Cameras.co.uk

June 12, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Cameras.co.uk has posted a review of the Sony W110.

The Sony DSC W110 does more or less exactly what it sets out to do. This is a no fuss digital camera that is able to cope with most photo opportunities.

Panasonic Lumix LZ10 Review at PhotoToday

June 12, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotoToday has posted a review of the Panasonic Lumix LZ10.

The LZ10 certainly differs from other models in the Panasonic catalog as well as what other manufacturers are offering this year. It’s particularly well suited for those photographers who want a small camera that will let them take control of exposure and allow them to be more creative.

Nikon Coolpix P80 Review at PhotographyBLOG

June 12, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix P80.  The new P80 boasts a 10.1 megapixel image sensor, Nikon’s EXPEED processing and vibration reduction on a whopping 18x optical zoom lens.  The P80’s 18x Zoom-NIKKOR lens covers focal lengths from 27-486mm (35mm format equivalent).

The 1cm macro mode can’t make up for this camera’s other deficiencies, and whilst image quality isn’t that bad, it isn’t great either, and certainly not as good as our current super-zoom of choice, the Fujifilm Finepix S8000fd.

Canon EOS 1000D Hands-On at Pocket-Lint

June 12, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Pocket-Lint has posted a hands-on first look of the Canon EOS 1000D (aka Digital Rebel XS).

It’s clear that Canon has found itself in a situation where they are lacking a model at the low end of the digital SLR market. While the 450D has allowed Canon to come on leaps and bounds in what it offers, an increase in features and tech has meant the 450D has become a mid-level entry-level camera rather than an entry-level entry-level model.

For the latest news, reviews and more, stay tuned to Photography Bay’s Canon Rebel XS Reviews and Resources.

Olympus SP-570 UZ Review at Washington Post

June 12, 2008 By Eric Reagan

washingtonpost.com has published a short review of the Olympus SP-570 UZ.

In bright daylight, however, the iESP targeting system (which the autofocus controls use to pick a spot to focus on) worked remarkably well, and produced clear shots even at the maximum zoom, aided by the image stabilization system built into the lens.

Sony Back-Illuminated CMOS Image Sensor

June 11, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Sony is about to shake things up in the digital camera world with a new image sensor.  Those of you who think the Live View tech and articulating LCD panel are just gimmicks (see Sony A350 review) will enjoy this potentially revolutionary development.  In the sample image below, you can see the potential that this new sensor technology brings to the table.  A couple of the obvious benefits to photographers are low light shooting with lower noise levels, which results in better overall image quality.  Currently, the prototype sensor is only 5 megapixels (which is probably plenty for most of us in most applications); however, you can expect Sony to push this tech to its limits and produce some astounding cameras in the near future.

PRESS RELEASE

Tokyo, Japan – Sony Corporation today announced the development of a back-illuminated CMOS image sensor (pixel size: 1.75µm square pixels, five effective mega pixels, 60 frames/s) with significantly enhanced imaging characteristics, including nearly twofold sensitivity*1 and low noise. This improved performance has been achieved by illuminating the backside of the silicon substrate, in contrast to conventional CMOS image sensors based on front-illumination technology. [Read more…]

Fujifilm FinePix S100fs Review at Photoxels

June 11, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Photoxels has posted a review of the Fujifilm FinePix S100fs.

The Fujifilm FinePix S100fs is the “almost DSLR” Super Zoom. Not only does it handle and feel like a DSLR, it is also easy enough in point-and-shoot mode to obtain high quality images that are properly exposed and with pleasant colors.

Olympus E-520 Review at Digital Camera Review

June 11, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Digital Camera Review has posted a review of the Olympus E-520.

In terms of overall approach, the E-520 may well be the most flexible consumer DSLR we’ve reviewed this year: whereas the Nikon D60 proved to be an excellent first SLR, and new models from Canon and Pentax have aimed to appeal to a slightly more advanced audience, the E-520 does both at once.

You can read more about the new camera on Photography Bay’s Olympus E-520 page.
