The Sony NEX-5 is a 14.2MP interchangeable lens camera with a mirrorless design. What makes the NEX-5 so special is that image sensor is the same physical size of those found in DSLRs like the Nikon D300s or Canon 7D. This sensor format is often referred to as APS-C format, which results from the sensor being roughly the same size and aspect ratio as the old (as in “1996 old”) Advanced Photo System type-C film.
The Fuji FinePix S2800HD is a 14MP point and shoot superzoom camera with an 18x optical zoom (28-504mm equivalent). The S2800HD offers a 3-inch LCD and captures 720p HD video.
The S2800HD should be available in September 2010 at an initial retail price of $259.95. Check availability on Amazon.com.

The Panasonic Lumix FZ40 is a 14.1MP point and shoot superzoom camera that offers a 24x optical zoom (25-600mm equivalent). The FZ40 can capture HD video in AVCHD Lite format and features a 3-inch LCD. The FZ40 should be available in August 2010 at an initial retail price of $399.95. Check availability on Amazon.com.

The Panasonic Lumix TS10 is a 14.1MP camera that is waterproof, freezeproof, shockproof, dustproof and deathproof. The TS10 features a 2.7-inch LCD and is capable of capturing 720p Motion JPG video. Sigma HQ is reporting that its new 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM lens is now available for Canon DSLRs using APS-C sensors (like the Rebel T2i, Canon 7D and Canon 50D). Nikon and other mount versions of this 17-50mm lens should also be available soon.

First up, I’ve got a more in-depth overview of the Sony NEX-VG10 over at Tech Tilt.
And second, I just wanted to point out that the location product shots of the NEX-VG10 appear to have been captured with a Sony A850 and Zeiss lenses. I realize that’s not quite as juicy as a 5D Mark II on Sony’s set (and I’m sure this will generate the obligatory “who cares” comment), but I figured I’d give Sony a bit of credit where credit is due.
