Canon EOS Rebel XSi Review at The Digital Picture

August 1, 2008 By Eric Reagan

The Digital Picture has posted a review of the Canon EOS 450D. The new EOS 450D (aka Digital Rebel XSi) kit comes with an stabilized 18-55mm lens. Canon’s entry-level DSLR now features a 3? rear LCD panel that’s capable of Live View framing and focusing.

Even compared to the not-very-old Canon Rebel XTi / 400D, the Canon EOS Rebel XSi / 450D delivers better image quality from a more attractive body with more features … I’m very pleased (actually somewhat surprised) with the improvements delivered by the Canon EOS Rebel XSi / 450D.

Canon EOS 1000D Review at Photo Review

August 1, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Photo Review has published a review of the new Canon EOS 1000D (aka Digital Rebel XS). The EOS 1000D takes over for the EOS 400D (aka Rebel XTi) at the bottom rung of Canon’s DSLR lineup. It features a 10.1 megapixel sensor.

Low-light performance was very good. Shots taken at ISO 1600 were sharp and colour-accurate with only a hint of visible colour noise. This was eliminated with the high ISO noise reduction setting. Long exposure noise reduction produced minimal image softening.

Olympus E-520 Review at PhotographyBLOG

August 1, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotgraphyBLOG has published a full review of the Olympus E-520.

On the surface, the new Olympus E-520 looks very similar to the 1-year old E-510 model that it replaces. The E520 retains some key features from its predecessor; the same 10 megapixel LiveMOS sensor, Supersonic Wave Filter, and body-integrated image stabilisation are all present and correct. What have Olympus added then to tempt you to part with £500 / $750 of your hard-earned cash? There’s a bigger 2.7 inch LCD screen, 3.5fps continuous shooting speed, the introduction of Shadow Adjustment Technology, Face Detection and more convenient auto-focus options in Live View, and wireless TTL flash control. Zoltan Arva-Toth finds out if the evolutionary Olympus E-520 has enough new features to survive in the cut-throat world of the entry-level DSLR market.

Olympus E-520 Preview at Buy-n-Shoot

July 30, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Buy-n-Shoot has posted a first impressions preview of the new Olympus E-520.

Overall, from the early preview and limited time offered my experience with the new Olympus E-520 was a very positive one.

Sony A200 Review at PopPhoto

July 29, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PopPhoto has posted a review of the Sony A200.

All in all, Sony’s Alpha 200 is a capable bargain-priced DSLR. Once you consider that the kit comes with a longer-than-usual 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for only $500, it becomes a steal.

Nikon D60 Review at PC Mag

July 28, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PC Mag has posted a review of the Nikon D60.

I don’t have many complaints about the D60. It is an easy-to-use camera that produces high-quality images, and at $750 (with lens), it’s a terrific deal. But since there aren’t too many substantial feature upgrades from the D40x, the D60 is in danger of falling behind the current competition.

Nikon D900

July 28, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Not a Nikon D900 Seriously? Another Nikon model number? I think we may now have more “rumored” camera models from Nikon than current generation models. We’ve seen rumors about the D90, D800, D3x and now the D900.

The only reason the Nikon D900 is getting the light of day here is because Thom Hogan is leaning toward a D900 model over the introduction of a D3x. He said:

I’m going to go a different direction: no D3x. Yes, a 24mp FX body, but it’ll be the D900. This allows them to use the Sony sensor and bring it downscale to compete with the A900/5DII.

Thom’s usually got a pretty good ear to the ground on these things, so there may very well be something to the D900 (or maybe a D800).

Sony A300 Review at Photo Review

July 27, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Photo Review has posted a review of the Sony A300.

Despite some evidence of edge softening, resolution was retained right up to ISO 1600 and only declined slightly at ISO 3200, as shown in the graph below. Flare was negligible with the supplied lens and the test camera’s spot metering system provided correct exposures with strong backlighting.

Canon EOS Rebel XSi Review at Imaging Resource

July 27, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Imaging Resource has posted a review of the Canon EOS 450D.  The new EOS 450D (aka Digital Rebel XSi) kit comes with an stabilized 18-55mm lens. Canon’s entry-level DSLR now features a 3? rear LCD panel that’s capable of Live View framing and focusing.

The Canon Rebel XSi is indeed a worthy successor to the Rebel throne. A camera with the Rebel name has never carried such sophistication, nor so rich a feature-set.
