5D Mark II Film ‘Act of Valor’ Gets Official Trailer

The first official Act of Valor trailer is out.  We’ve been hearing Shane Hurlbut (Act of Valor’s cinematographer) talk about this film for many months now.  Back in June we learned that Relativity Media picked it up for $13 Million.

RED Cameras and the Push to a 48fps Standard

The above video does a nice job of summarizing the state of RED and what filmmakers like James Cameron and Peter Jackson are doing with the technology, along with their push toward a cinematic standard frame rate of 48 frames per second.  You also get some nice behind-the-scenes at RED Studios.

Bad is Bad

We’ve seen such a democratization of filmmaking over the past 3 years.  ‘Bad is Bad’ is more proof of that.  Kent Lamm and Chris Fornataro used a Canon 7D and a shoestring budget to shoot their first feature-length film last summer.

Bad is Bad is our first feature length movie. It was written when we were 19 and shot when we were 20. Our total budget was about $6,000. We filmed it in 18.5 days in Richmond, Virginia in the summer of 2010 using the Canon 7d (which made up a quarter of our budget alone).

Gale Tattersall on CreativeLIVE Talking HDSLR Workflow

Heads up to everyone who wants to get more into HDSLR video capture – Gale Tattersall is on CreativeLIVE this weekend with a full 3-days of HDSLR instruction. If you aren’t familiar with the name, Tattersall is the Director of Photography for House.  He shot the House season finale last year with the 5D Mark II.

Canon 5D Mark II and 7D Filmmaking Updates

A couple of recent developments in the Canon 7D and 5D Mark II‘s resume make the camera shine a little brighter.  As we knew, the potential is huge with this camera and it continues to create a ton of buzz in the filmmaking world.
