Ricoh GX200 Review at PhotographyBLOG

July 5, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of the all new Ricoh GX200.

At first glance the GX200 seems very similar to it predecessor, but after a week’s shooting it quickly becomes evident that this camera is much more refined, both in terms of speed and features – the only thing lacking is any improvement in image quality.

Ricoh GX200 Review at Trusted Reviews

June 28, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Trusted Reviews has posted a review of the new Ricoh GX200.

The GX200 is a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to the images. At lower ISO settings in good light it can certainly produce the goods. Colour and tone are very pleasant and images have plenty of punch. Sharpness is good throughout the zoom range and there’s plenty of detail in the images.

Ricoh R8 Review at Digicam Review

May 4, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DigiCam Review has posted a review of the Ricoh R8.

The Ricoh R8 looks and feels great, and is capable of taking some great photos. The camera has a sharp wide angle 7.1x optical zoom lens, and is almost ultra compact, similar in size to other ultra compact cameras such as the IXUS 90 IS. Ricoh appear to have moved this camera upmarket with a newly designed body, and improved hand grip and control dial.

Ricoh GR Digital II Review at PhotographyBLOG

May 3, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of the Ricoh GR Digital II.

The GR Digital II is another excellent addition to Ricoh’s now extensive line-up of compact cameras for professional photographers. The 28mm lens with fast maximum aperture of f/2.4 and very little distortion is a winning combination for landscape and street photographers alike, especially as the GR Digital II continues the usual Ricoh tradition of being responsive to use, especially when shooting JPEGs.

Ricoh R8 Review at DCResource

April 30, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DCResource has posted a review of the Ricoh R8.

The R8 was generally a good performer. It starts up in about two seconds, which is on the slow side, though the camera has a good-sized zoom to extend. Focusing speeds were about average, ranging from 0.2 – 0.4 seconds at wide-angle, to around twice that at full telephoto.

Ricoh G600

April 22, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Ricoh has announced a new 10 megapixel, rugged point and shoot camera, the G600. The G600 is a small and light point and shoot camera that is ruggedized to easily withstand a 1.5 m fall, which is tough enough for the US Department of Defense. The G600 features a 5x optical wide-angle zoom lens (equivalent to 28-140 mm for a 35 mm camera). The G600 also has a 1 cm macro function and a ?ash range of 10 m. It operates at ISOs up to 3200 and features a 2.7″ LCD display. Finally, the G600 is weatherproof and can even shoot underwater up to 1m.

Trusted Reviews has posted a review of the new Ricoh R8, which offers a 10 megapixel sensor and a 28-200mm equivalent zoom.

The Ricoh R8 is an expensive camera, but it does offer a unique specification and very distinctive style. Build quality is superb, and the design of the body and control interface makes it a real pleasure to use.

Ricoh GR Digital II Review at Cnet

April 9, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Cnet has posted a review of the Ricoh GR Digital II.

The GR Digital II is a cute compact camera that might appeal to street photographers looking to step away from a rangefinder and into digital, but doesn’t deliver the features, performance, or image quality it should given its steep price tag.

Steve’s Digicams

Image quality from the 10-megapixel GRD2 is outstanding. The exposure and saturation are excellent, and the color is very vivid.

Think Camera

The Ricoh GR DIGITAL II is a specialist camera – it’s not for everyone, but for everyday for those who fall for its unique charms. Once you get into the ‘old’ style way of working, the conversion lenses and the like, it’s an inspiring way of working that delivers great results.

Digital Camera Resource Page

Photo quality was generally good, though you’ll get the best results out of the GRD by shooting in RAW. The camera generally took well-exposed photos, with pleasing, vivid color. Ricoh has taken a conservative approach to in-camera sharpening, so images are on the soft side here.

Photo Review

Shots taken with the test camera were richly detailed with natural-looking colours and atypically restrained saturation for a digicam. Skin tones were particularly well rendered.

Where to Buy

First off, consider going to your local camera store (and I don’t necessarily mean Wolf Camera at the mall). By going to your local camera store, you’re supporting your community and you just might build a lasting relationship with people you can rely on when you need some help or answers. If you’re buying online, I recommend sticking with Amazon, B&H Photo or Adorama. These three vendors are reliable, trustworthy and generally have the best (legitimate) prices.

February 19, 2008 By Eric Reagan
