Lightroom 2 Review at PhotographyBLOG

August 18, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of Adobe Lightroom 2.

Adobe have been aggressively developing Lightroom, their digital photography workflow software, since it was first announced back in January 2006. Version 2 features a host of notable improvements – dual-monitor support, non-destructive localised image correction, streamlined search capabilities, support for 64-bit operating systems, and a number of other additions. Lightroom 2 is priced at £175 / $299 for new users, with an upgrade price of £69 / $99. Jon Canfield takes a look to see if Lightroom 2 is the best one-stop photography solution yet…

Nikon SB-900 Speedlight Review at Photo Review

August 18, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Photo Review has posted his review of the new Nikon SB-900.

Suffice it to say we found the test sample to be an excellent performer that delivered an evenly-exposed set of test shots with different camera-to-subject distances and focal length settings.

Canon PowerShot SD890 IS Review at DC Resource

August 18, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DC Resource has posted a review of the Canon PowerShot SD890 IS.  The new SD890 IS features a 10 megapixel sensor, a 2.5? LCD panel and a 5x optical zoom (a 35mm equivalent of 37-185mm). The SD890 IS also features a macro mode that allows close focusing at a distance of less than one inch.

Canon’s PowerShot SD890 IS Digital ELPH is a good choice for those who want a little extra zoom power from a compact camera. It offers very good photo quality (in good light), a 5X zoom lens, optical image stabilization, good performance, and plenty of point-and-shoot features — all in a stylish package.

Newsweek Provides Glimpse Into Olympic Photogrophy

August 18, 2008 By Thursday Bram

Officially, Newsweek’s Visions of China photo blog focuses on the athletes and events of the Beijing Olympics. But there are a few hidden gems that show off all the hard work that goes into the photos making it into Newsweek and other publications.

Two posts have particularly stood out so far: “Preparing for the Biggest Organized Event of Them All” and “More Than a Ten Hour Wait for an Event That Lasts Less Than 10 Seconds.”

Ever wondered what equipment a Newsweek photographer takes to the Olympics? In the first post, Vincent Laforet describes his equipment and how he packs it. What about the set up for photographing an event like the men’s 100 meter race and the problems photographers are running into in Beijing? Laforet covers all that in the second. These two posts provide a lot of insight into all the work that goes into photographing the Olympics, and there are plenty of great photos throughout the rest of the blog.

Canon 1Ds Mark III Review at DP Review

August 18, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DP Review has published its review of Canon’s flagship EOS 1Ds Mark III.

It is undeniably impressive, and though it appears on the surface to be a fairly low key update to the Mark II, the more you use it the more you realize how all the little improvements add up to a significantly better camera (and that’s aside from the resolution hike).

Sony A900 at Photo Image Brazil

August 15, 2008 By Eric Reagan

The Sony A900 made an appearance at Photo Image Brazil this week.  Here on some shots of the displays that surfaced on the DPR forums.  In the image above you can see the see-through body of the A900 along with an example of the size differences in an APC and full-frame sensor.

Above is a head-on shot of what looks to be the final version of the A900 with references to its massive 24.6 megapixels along with the sure-to-perform Carl Zeiss 24-70 f/2.8 lens.  Now there’s a kit lens.
