A tipster sent me an email that there will be a limited number of Canon 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye lenses coming to Canon USA next week. This info is consistent with Canon’s previously announced delay and just squeezes this lens into the promised July delivery date.
I have know way of knowing how far the distribution will go to retailers; however, both B&H and Adorama still show the lens as not in stock. If you find one of these in stock, you might want to go ahead and grab it as the initial stock will likely be thin for a while.
If you have more info on this or other new product availability, please drop a line via the contact form or email me anonymously at contact [at] photographybay [dot] com.

I’ve often wondered what I might do with such a lens. Does anyone out there in PB world have ideas of how one would make regular use of such a lens?

This would be an awesome lens on a regular basis for doing underwater photography with a housing. Don’t know how many housing lens barrels will accommodate this one, but when working underwater you need the ultrawide angle and a deep field of focus. The fisheye effect is nearly nullified when you are shooting close-ups of coral, anemones, etc. So, there are applications that go beyond “artistic.”

You don’t make “regular” use of a fisheye. It’s for artistic fisheye effects only.
