Official 5D Mark III Images and Spec List?

March 1, 2012 By Eric Reagan

5D Mark III and 24-70mm II

This appears to be the official images of the 5D Mark III along with a possible spec list for the camera. (via CR)

Note that there are a couple of things in the spec list that seem a little odd – like the plethora of video formats.  We should know something for sure later tonight though.

More images and full spec list below.

Canon Rumors site went down about 8:15 a.m. The NDA police are working overtime this morning!

I would bet canonrumors.com went down because of traffic. It’s happened after the previous couple 5D3 postings too.

I’m looking forward to more details on this body. Video shooters have a lot to be excited about. A LOT. Unfortunately, I’m not a video shooter.

Still shooters? I’m not sure. Reports of the wireless flash system finally seeing the light of day really got my hopes up. No mention of this feature here. That would be a killer addition that would really benefit still shooters. We get the superior AF we’ve been asking for. That’s good. We get better water and dust resistance. I don’t know about this one. If the difference is significant that’s very good although the lack of a gasket around the lens mount suggest it may be more talk than real. Resolution is basically the same although if low light performance is significantly improved then that’s very significant. (Interesting to see that Nikon has gone from too little resolution to too much, IMO.)

It’s obviously too soon to have an opinion about whether this upgrade warrants the $3,500 US price (assuming that rumor is accurate) but based on features alone, without RC flash control, my initial reaction is “no” for still shooters. It will have to demonstrate a significant increase in IQ to get me to upgrade.
