One of the things I haven’t passed along yet from the Canon Expo is the new line of PRO printers that Canon had on the expo floor. Canon featured new printers in a variety of sizes that make up the new line, including 60-inch, 44-inch, 24-inch (top image) and 17-inch printers.
The Canon 17-inch, 24-inch and 44-inch PRO line printers will all use a 12-ink system, which is probably the same makeup as we see in the current Canon PIXMA PRO-1 with five monochrome inks in the system.
Appearance-wise, the new printers adopt the professional-signifying red line as found on Canon’s L lenses. I wonder if Canon will feature the “L” badge in the new printer model names?
The signage slideshows surrounding the printer displays emphasized high resolution and high dynamic range in this next generation of printers.
In addition to the PRO line printers featured at the expo, a 60-inch and 44-inch option in what appears to be the imagePROGRAF line were found in the industrial printing area.
Both of these printers will feature an 8-color ink set, like the current iPF8400S and iPF9400S printers that I suspected these are slated to replace.
As with everything else at the Canon Expo, there was no firm price or release date for any of these printers. That said, it’s possible that we could see some of these as early as this month with PhotoPlus 2015 just around the corner.
