Casio EX-10HG

The Casio EX-10HG is a new concept camera that was not part of any announcements at CES 2010.  A handful of EX-10HG prototypes were on display in Casio’s booth on the CES showfloor.

Samsung NX10 Hands-On Review

January 9, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Samsung NX10

While at CES 2010, I had the opportunity to handle the new 14.6MP Samsung NX10.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t take any image samples from the camera because it was a pre-production model. The good news about the camera though, is that it was mostly functional and gave a good idea of what to expect from the NX10 that we’ll soon see on store shelves. [Read more…]

Panasonic Introduces SDXC 64GB and 48GB Cards

January 8, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Panasonic SDXC

Panasonic introduced new SDXC cards in 64GB and 48GB capacities at CES 2010.

SDXC cards are a new standard from the SD Association that allows for capacities ranging from 64GB to 2TB.  SDXC cards also have a speed advantage over the SDHC format.  The SDXC format has a theoretical speed of 104MB/s to potentially 300MB/s in the future.

It is important to note that SDXC cards are not compatible with camera models that are not specifically designed with the SDXC format in mind.

The Panasonic 64GB SDXC card carries an initial retail price of $599.95, while the 48GB SDXC card has an initial retail price of $449.95.

New Lexar Products at CES 2010

January 8, 2010 By Eric Reagan

32GB_PRO_CF_300x

Lexar announced a number of new additions to its product lineup at CES 2010.

Lexar added a 32GB capacity to its 300x Professional series of CF cards.  Additionally, 16GB and 32GB capacities have been added to the 233x CF Pro series.

Lexar’s biggest buzzing product was a new Echo drive series, which are small USB drives that can be set to back up specific files or folders.  During a product demo, I saw the utility of how these drives can help photographers working in the field.  These drives can be used to automate the backup portion of your workflow, which helps speed things up when you’re out in the field.

Lexar Echo ZE

As you can see from the above shot of the Echo ZE, Lexar has managed to fit 32GB into a tiny form factor.  The Lexar Echo SE drive is bigger, more like a normal-sized USB stick; however, according to Lexar, it is much faster.

More details about the Lexar Echo drives in the press release below. [Read more…]

Olympus Stylus Tough 3000

January 7, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Olympus Stylus Tough 3000

Introduced at CES 2010, the Olympus Stylus Tough 3000 is the latest update to Olympus’ deathproof line of cameras.

It’s got a 3.6x zoom, 12MP sensor, shoots 720p video and offers Image Stabilization built-in.  The Touch 3000 can withstand 5 foot drops, can be submerged in water up to 10 feet.  It can also deal with cold weather down to -14 degrees and can be eaten by polar bears and still come out firing.  While the polar bear part doesn’t come from Olympus’ press conference, I’m pretty sure that it’s capable after some hands-on time.

The Tough 3000 should be available in February 2010 and carries an initial retail price of $229.99.  Check availability on Amazon.com.

More details in the press release below. [Read more…]
