Canon USA v. Get It Digital Case Dismissed

It’s been quite some time since I reported an update in Canon USA’s attack on gray market retailers. A few things have happened since then, including the dismissal of Canon’s case against the ebay seller Get It Digital.

Sony’s RX100 V Raises the Bar . . . Again

When the compact camera market was spiraling out of control toward rock bottom, Sony unveiled a premium pocket camera that was more expensive than the rest of the competition. While Canon, Nikon, Olympus and the rest were struggling to unload pocket cameras for $100 or less, the Sony RX100 rose from the ashes of a market segment that had been decimated by the iPhone.

The reason the RX100 dominated as a premium camera is that Sony made the best possible compact camera it could make. And customers were willing to pay hundreds of dollars more than other compact cameras because the RX100 made much better images than any other pocket camera on the market.

The Sony RX100 V marks the fifth generation of this camera line and now demands $1000 as a flagship model, which is the same as the RX100 IV.

Are we really in a place in the photo industry today where we can get excited about a $1000 pocket camera?

Deal: Fujifilm FP-100c Instant Film for $19.99

Fujifilm FP-100C is Discontinued

B&H has the discontinued Fujifilm FP-100c peel-apart instant film in stock for $19.99. This film had previously spiked upwards of $30 per pack after the announcement of its discontinuation earlier this year. B&H says it has limited stock of the film, which prior to the discontinuation sold for around $11 per pack.

After the final run of film is out of stock, expect remaining supplies to skyrocket in price (the previously-discontinued FP-3000B goes for $40 or more now). Check out FP-100c film here at B&H Photo while it lasts.

Deal: Canon 5D Mark IV for $3344

ebay (via Electronics Valley) has the Canon 5D Mark IV for $3344 (reg. $3499). This is a gray market deal and Electronics Valley has a positive feedback rating of 99.7%. Check it out here on ebay.

That’s not quite the substantial drops in prices we see in other models, but if you’re looking for a bigger drop, consider waiting a couple months or so as gray market prices drop further.
