Create Great iPhone Photos is a new book from Allan Hoffman that covers iPhone photo apps, tips and tricks to help users get the most out of their iPhone cameras.  I don’t know that I’ve seen a book solely dedicated to using your iPhone’s camera, but if you’re really wanting to do more with your iPhone photography, you can find the book for about $19 on Amazon.

GIMP 2.6 for Photographers – New Book

January 18, 2011 By Eric Reagan

GIMP 2.6 for Photographers is a new book from Klaus Goelker that guides beginning GIMP users through the open-source image editing software.  GIMP 2.6 is free, open-source software compatible with Windows, OS X and Linux.

GIMP is considered a rather powerful alternative to Photoshop; however, educational info on GIMP has sometimes been difficult to find.  This book “has evolved from classroom materials that the author developed and taught in courses and workshops on image editing with the GIMP.”  Conveniently, the book includes a software DVD that contains a full version of GIMP and other open-source photo programs for those with slower Internet connections.

GIMP 2.6 for Photographers carries a retail price of $39.95; however, it is currently available for $26.37 on Amazon.com.

If you shoot small flash (any brand), then 70% will be of interest. If you shoot Canon Speedlites, then 110% of the book will be of interest.”

Understanding Exposure – Book Review

December 24, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Understanding Exposure is a book by Bryan Peterson that teaches the basic elements of exposure and is now in its 3rd edition.  As was the case the prior two editions, the 3rd edition of Understanding Exposure provides the novice photographer with easy-to-read chapters and great information overall.

Peterson really breaks down the nuts and bolts of what goes into making a well-exposed image at the beginning of the book.  Then he delves a little deeper into the creative aspects of aperture and shutter speed – and how you can use these settings to make a “creatively correct” exposure. Photoshop Elements 9 Book for Digital Photographers Now Shipping

December 14, 2010 By Eric Reagan

It looks like Scott Kelby’s new Photoshop Elements 9 book has started shipping from Amazon.com.

As I’ve said before, if you are a photographer struggling with Photoshop Elements (or any version for that matter), you could do a lot worse than picking up a book penned by Kelby.

If you were holding off getting this book for a photographer on your shopping list because you didn’t know if the pre-order would get here, it looks like you’ll have no trouble getting it delivered in time for Christmas morning.

You can find it here on Amazon.
