Canon Fall 2008 Rebates

October 19, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Today, Canon has launched its Fall 2008 rebate program, which applies to a variety of lenses and three flashes. Purchases eligible for this rebate must be made between October 19, 2008 and January 17, 2009.

As has been the case for the past couple of years, all of these savings are instant rebates, which means they are applied to your purchase at the time it is made – no worries about mailing in UPCs and receipts.

The full set of lenses and flashes are listed below along with the rebate amount. Links take to the Amazon pages for each particular item. I also recommend Adorama and B&H Photo as trustworthy and reliable online retailers.

Canon 50D Review at Camera Labs

October 18, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Camera Labs has posted a review of the Canon 50D.

The Canon EOS 50D is a worthy update to the already excellent EOS 40D, equipping it not just with the latest features, but also a significant boost in resolution without compromising noise levels.

Nikon D90 Review at Digital Camera Info

October 15, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Digital Camera Info has published a review of the Nikon D90.

Setting video aside, though, there’s an awful lot to like about this camera, from its fast burst mode to its fine low-light performance for flash-free photos and a Live View mode that’s still not perfect, but does prove comfortable and convenient in certain shooting situations.

Fuji Finepix S2000 HD Review at Cameras.co.uk

October 15, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Camera.co.uk has published a review of the Fuji Finepix S2000 HD.

In my view the Fuji Finepix S2000HD does not match up to the best cameras in this section. It is true that it is not the most expensive super zoom camera, but I feel by paying that bit more you will get better value for money.

Canon 18-200mm IS Lens Review at DP Review

October 15, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DP Review has posted a review of the new Canon 18-200mm IS lens, which we’ve all be waiting to hear more about.  Unsurprisingly, it didn’t receive the coveted “Highly Recommended” badge from DP Review.  The reviewers were only able to “Recommend” the lens with reservations, noting that it’s “a general purpose solution which allows the photographer not to worry about fiddling around changing lenses when out traveling, but which makes inevitable optical compromises to achieve this goal.”

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 Review at DC Resource

October 15, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DC Resource has published a review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3.

While it certainly doesn’t rival a digital SLR, the DMC-LX3 does deliver very good quality images for a compact camera. They have vibrant, saturated color, pleasing sharpness, low noise, and minimal purple fringing.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T300 Review at Imaging Resource

October 14, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Imaging Resource has published an “Express Review” of the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T300.

Thanks to the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T300’s ease of use, intuitive design, and capable performance, I had a pleasant experience with the camera. The camera handles most normal shooting conditions well, and options like Smile Shutter, Face Detection, and its multiple focus modes help the Sony T300 cope with more difficult situations.

Fujifilm FinePix F60fd Review at Cnet

October 14, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Cnet has posted a review of the Fujifilm FinePix F60fd, calling it “very good” with 3.5 stars.

Fujifilm’s FinePix F60fd is a nice full-featured compact camera, if you can overlook its slow shooting.

Canon Powershot A2000 IS Review at Cameras.co.uk

October 13, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Cameras.co.uk has published a review of the Canon Powershot A2000 IS.

If picture quality and a bit of value for money is more important to you than digging deeper for a more stylish, pocket camera then the Powershot A2000 IS makes an excellent choice. The extra zoom offered by the 6x is a handy bonus.

Nikon D90 Reviews at PhotographyBLOG and DP Review

October 13, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG and DP Review have published reviews of the Nikon D90.

PhotographyBLOG – The Nikon D90 is a difficult camera to rate. When viewed as a ‘traditional’ SLR, it is simply an excellent camera that I very much enjoyed using. All the frequently used functions have direct controls assigned to them, be it aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, file quality, drive mode, AF mode, AE Lock – you name it.

DP Review – We described the D80 as a photographer’s camera and, despite the addition of video, the D90 appears to share that same ethos. On a purely specification level, it’s a highly competitive piece of kit, but it’s the way the features have been chosen and put together that make it the camera that it is.
