Camera phones have really stepped it up over the past several months. I remember thinking 2 megapixels was pretty solid in my Nokia a couple years back; however, Samsung brings in a whopping 8 megapixels with their new INNOV8, which also features certified DIVX playback and internal storage of 16GB. Read the two press releases below for further details on the INNOV8. [Read more…]

Nikon SB-900 Review at Strobist

July 24, 2008 By Eric Reagan

David Hobby over at Strobist has given the Nikon SB-900 a good run-through and shares his thoughts on the new $500 speedlight.

One other noteworthy change is that the SB-900 swings both ways — you can go reverse 180 in either direction. This is especially useful, in that whichever way you mount a remote flash you can have the receiving window facing the master light source.

Jump on over there to see whether you should sell all of your SB-800’s to make room in your bag for SB-900’s.  (Ok, it’s not that simple, but David’s got some great insights on the pros and cons of the new flash, particularly for those of you who already own a stable of SB-800’s.)

Pre-Order the SB-900 at Adorama.

UPDATE: It looks like the links to the D700 are down at the moment. The SB-900 manual still downloads though. (Here’s the link to Nikon’s download page for the D700.)

Father Called ‘Pervert’ For Photographing His Kids

July 17, 2008 By Thursday Bram

Gary Crutchley took his kids to the park. They were sliding down an inflatable slide and he decided to take a few pictures as reminders of a fun family outing. But a woman standing in line demanded that he stop taking pictures because her children were on the slide. Another adult accused him of taking pictures of children to post to the internet.

Crutchley had only taken pictures of his own children. He found two policemen that confirmed to the crowd he had done nothing wrong.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Crutchley asked: “What is the world coming to when anybody seen with a camera is assumed to be doing things that they should not?”
