Pro Photographer Explains His Switch from Nikon to Fuji Mirrorless

November 18, 2014 By Eric Reagan

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZM40jC2ueE&w=700]

Last week, I shared how one pro photographer switched from Nikon to Sony’s mirrorless cameras. But Sony isn’t the only mirrorless camera maker that is firing on all cylinders.

Photographer Lukas Gisbert-mora recently switched from Nikon’s DSLR system to Fuji’s X-Series with the new Fuji X-T1. He’s been a Nikon user for 15 years and after 3 months and 20,000 photos with the X-T1, he switched completely to the Fuji X-T1. [Read more…]

Nikon D750 Hands-On Review

November 11, 2014 By Eric Reagan

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p36JKnSOBLY&w=700]

Kai from Digital Rev is back with his first look at the new Nikon D750. He provides his usual quirk, along with some practical observations of the camera. As usual with Kai, there is some mild language within – so, fair warning.

Since Kai discussed the body materials and construction of the Nikon D750 quite a bit in the video, I figured this is a good place to share some of the photos of the D750 teardown and cutaways that I gathered at PhotoPlus last month. Check them out below. [Read more…]

10 Reasons Why a Professional Photographer Left Nikon and Started Shooting with Sony

November 9, 2014 By Eric Reagan

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wM_5nROeaw&w=700]

Check out this video from professional photographer Jason Lanier as he breaks down the 10 reasons why he stopped shooting Nikon DSLRs and mored to Sony mirrorless cameras. Jason says that he “has shot with Nikon his entire life and professional career. He switched to Sony in July 2014 (not due to a sponsorship) and hasn’t looked back since.”

Sony is obviously gaining ground on Canon and Nikon, and the Sony A7 series has made huge strides for the mirrorless camera market. What do you DSLR shooters think about Jason’s claims? Are you considering a switch to mirrorless, Sony or otherwise?

Nikon Coolpix A Gets a Big Price Drop

October 23, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Nikon Coolpix A

Nikon’s compact DX-format camera, the Coolpix A, finally got a much needed price drop from north of $1000 down to $699.

The Coolpix A was an impressive little camera from the start – with its 18.5mm f/2.8 lens (28mm equivalent) and a 16.2MP APS-C sensor. The price was just eye-rolling high at $1100. At $699, I can definitely see this camera getting a lot more action. Check it out here at B&H Photo.

Nikon Coolpix P600 firmware update version 1.2 adds the following improvements:

  • An issue that prevented charging of the Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL23 using the camera and charging AC adapter when the EN-EL23 was completely discharged has been resolved.

Nikon Coolpix P340 firmware update version 1.2 adds the following improvements:

  • An issue that prevented charging of the Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL12 using the camera and charging AC adapter when the EN-EL12 was completely discharged has been resolved.
  • When RAW (NRW) images captured with a burst of continuous shooting at a setting of Continuous H were opened in image-processing software such as ViewNX 2 for development, image colors were abnormal. This issue has been resolved.
