The Nikon P7100 is the latest top-of-the-line Coolpix camera, featuring RAW-format capture and serving as a replacement for the Coolpix P7000.
Nikon Coolpix P7100 and AW100
The Nikon Coolpix P7100 and AW100 surfaced this afternoon on Nikon Rumors a little while before their anticipated unveiling later tonight/tomorrow.
The P7100 looks to be the replacement for the rather sluggish Coolpix P7000. However, Nikon may very well have boosted the performance of the P7100 so that its a viable option for those who want an advanced compact.

I’ve been trying out the Nikon Coolpix P500 for a couple of weeks or so now. Similar to its predecessor, the P100, the Nikon P500 captures VGA-quality video at 120fps and QVGA-quality at 240fps. While both are fun, I find the 120fps at VGA’s 640 x 480 resolution much more practical for sharing on TV sets or online.
Below is a short sample of some clips I shot at both frame rates. Note that the 240fps footage has been up-rezzed in post from its native 320 x 240 resolution to standard VGA 640 x 480 resolution in order to match the 120fps frame size.

Nikon’s 2011 Annual Report was made available yesterday. In the Imaging Company section, the Annual Report discusses the continued growth of DSLRs and how sales were good, but could have been better if not for the supply shortage caused by the earthquake in Japan.

It looks like Nikon’s compact mirrorless camera has leaked its lens mount and sensor mount onto the web. Based on this image, it’s clearly not an F-mount camera – so you won’t be using existing Nikon lenses on this camera (without an adapter, that is). Additionally, the sensor looks smaller than APS-C format. [Read more…]
