November 20, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Photography Review has published a full review of the Olympus E-520.

Combine the E-520’s minimal size and built-in image stabilization and you’ve got what I believe is one of the best backpacking cameras available.

Nikon D3x and Nikon D400 Rumors

November 20, 2008 By Eric Reagan

The latest word on the long-rumored Nikon D3x is that Nikon’s going to drop the bombshell on December 1.

Additionally, rumors of a Nikon D400 are also surfacing.

I’ve not seen anything convincing of either point yet; however, Nikon Rumors has posted the trail of breadcrumbs here and here.  You’ll also find a lively discussion in the DPR forums here.

Nikon SB-900 Firmware Update 5.02

November 20, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Nikon has released a firmware update for the Nikon SB-900 flash.  The following improvements have been made in version 5.02

  • With uninterrupted shooting with the SB-900 set to i-TTL mode, images captured just before the flash ceased firing were sometimes overexposed. This issue has been resolved. By resolving this issue, metering precision has been further increased and the number of times the flash fires has also been increased.
  • When the SB-900, set to TTL auto flash mode, is used with a camera supporting the Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS), flash mode automatically changes to A mode according to camera communication status. That flash mode was previously maintained, but it has been modified so that TTL auto flash mode is restored once the SB-900 again recognizes the camera as a CLS-compatible camera.

Additional details and downloads can be found via the following links to Nikon:

Casio EXILIM Pro EX-FH20 Review at PhotographyBLOG

November 19, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of the Casio EXILIM Pro EX-FH20.

Photographically speaking, there’s nothing that exceptional about the Casio. However if you’re a YouTube junkie and as keen on video as you are shooting stills, and being able to capture slow motion footage as well as widescreen vistas floats your boat, then the Casio EXILIM Pro EX-FH20 is worth further investigation.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 Review at Cnet

November 18, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Cnet has posted a review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 is a camera that people will either love for its speed, photo quality, and interchangeable-lens flexibility or hate for its large-ish size, electronic viewfinder, and occasionally frustrating design.
