13,000 Vivitar Cameras for Sale

October 10, 2008 By Eric Reagan

If you’re in the market for a new point & shoot camera (or 10 of them), then the liquidation of Vivitar UK’s stock might interest you – particularly, if you’re in the UK.  King Sturge, a European property consultant, will be conducting an online auction October 14-16 as a result of the sale of the Vivitar brand to Sakar International. The auction will consist of 999 lots (many of which contain 10 new/boxed cameras) of Vivitar UK’s remaining assets.

If you’re outside the UK and want by a camera or 10 of them, consider that the cameras packed with rechargeable batteries have UK pronged chargers.

Nikon D3x Rumor Rekindled

October 8, 2008 By Eric Reagan

It’s been a while since we’ve heard any rumblings about a D3x.  I was beginning to think those rumors had died off in favor of the Nikon MX format rumors.

Not so fast, says a Nikon USA’s PR department through what I’m sure is solid 3rd hand info at DPR forums…

  • 24.4 megapixels
  • 9 frames per second
  • Full frame w/ crop capabilities
  • $6499.99 USD
  • same body as D3
  • December announcement/release?

Thom Hogan added to the discussion:

And people wonder why Nikon offers a doubled buffer for the D3 ;~)

I will note, however, that several prior rumors from as old as last October said the D3x was 12 months away.  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how merry Christmas turns out to be for all you Nikon shooters.

For past and present D3x rumors, keep your eyes on Photography Bay’s Nikon D3x Rumors page.

Casio Updates EX-FH20 Firmware, Already

October 8, 2008 By Thursday Bram

After less than a month on the market, the EX-FH20 has a firmware update. Casio has made the update for its speedy new camera available on its website. The update will improve the performance of the EX-FH20’s memory card storage when shooting movies. A CLASS6 equivalent transfer speed memory card is recommended for the camera.

The firmware update is version 1.01, and Casio has posted a special warning for EXILIM owners updating their cameras:

If firmware update installation is interrupted due to low battery power, your camera will no longer be able to operate. Be sure to load a fresh set of new batteries into the camera before starting the firmware update installation procedure. Note that you perform firmware update at your own risk.

Nikon D700 Review at DP Review

October 7, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DP Review has posted a review of the Nikon D700.

On top of the saving you also get a built-in flash (certainly useful for some) and integrated sensor cleaning. Specification is one thing though and image quality and performance are another. Luckily though the D700 is on a similar level as the D3 in these areas as well.
