Will Adobe Offer a “Regular” License of Photoshop Again?

Adobe recently released a statement acknowledging some of the major complaints surrounding Creative Cloud and Photoshop CC.

In the statement ,Adobe gave particular attention to photographers, who have apparently been the most vocal group among Adobe’s customers dissatisfied with the Creative Cloud offerings. Adobe alludes to an option for the photography community that will be different from what’s already on the table for Creative Cloud apps (i.e., Photoshop and Lightroom subscriptions). Photoshop CC New Features Roundup from Adobe MAX

Many of the new features in Adobe Photoshop CC were somewhat lost in the news of Adobe’s move to a subscription-only service for Photoshop CC and other Creative Cloud apps. However, there are many new whiz-bang features coming to Photoshop CC next month, most of which were highlighted to some extent at the Adobe MAX conference earlier this month.

Adobe Photoshop Express for Windows 8 Devices, Including Microsoft Surface

Adobe has announced that Photoshop Express is now available for Windows 8 devices, including Microsoft Surface. Previously, Photoshop Express had only been available for iOS and Android devices.

Photoshop Express for Windows 8 offers the following capabilities:

  • Make basic photo enhancements such as crop, straighten, rotate, flip, or remove red-eye.
  • Enjoy creative, one-touch filters that provide eye-catching effects — more than 15 to choose from!
  • Let their photos shine with a one-tap correction that adjusts color, contrast, and brightness all at once.
  • Use slider controls to enhance contrast, exposure, and white balance, or let the app auto-correct it for them.
  • Upload their photos to Adobe Revel to sync them across their Windows 8 tablet, iPhone, and computer.

Camera Raw 8.1 Release Candidate for Photoshop CS6 Now Available

Adobe just announced a release candidate for Camera Raw 8.1, which is now available in Adobe Labs. This is the first departure from Camera Raw 7.x for CS6 users. With the recent Adobe Photoshop CC changes taking place, CS6 customers will continue to get new updates for raw file support; however, the killer new features that are part of Camera Raw in Photoshop CC will not make it over to CS6 customers.

Camera Raw 8.1 includes support for HiDPI capable displays (e.g., MacBook Pro Retina) and offers support for the following cameras:

Remember, this is a release candidate, which means it has been pretty well tested and Adobe thinks it is ready for full release; however, it’s recommended that you keep production work to prior versions until the official release drops.  Expect that to come soon though.  Release candidates mean that the final versions are just around the corner.

Adobe’s Big Creative Cloud Move – Livecast

Updated: I just wanted to follow-up on a point where I misspoke. Someone asked a question about the download and installation process of Creative Cloud apps. Specifically, the question was whether it was a DMG file for Macs. I said it was; however, it’s actually some kind of application manager from Adobe that installs the individual apps without having to deal with DMG files. Sorry for the mix up.

Adobe Creative Cloud and the Death of Boxed Software

What a week it has been.

Many pro and amateur photographers, along with many other creative pros and enthusiasts, woke up Monday morning looking forward to what might come out of the Adobe MAX conference as the latest Adobe products were set to be unveiled.

Adobe teased us for several weeks leading up to Adobe MAX, including an impressive showing of new video products at NAB 2013. Many of us were nearly on pins and needles with anticipation based on what we had seen thus far.

I mean, this stuff just keeps better and better.

And Then… The Hammer Dropped.

Adobe killed perpetual licenses of almost all of its creative software. Creative Cloud is the future. The only future.

Sure, you can still buy CS6 licenses, and you will own those in perpetuity. Although, you won’t get the whiz-bang new features for CS6. Ever.

Deep down, most of us knew this was coming. However, I don’t think many of us guessed it would happen this year. I sure didn’t. [Read more…]

Adobe Unveils Photoshop CC, Kills Future Creative Suite Products

Adobe announced today that the new Photoshop CC is coming for Creative Cloud members in June. Alongside, the announcement of Photoshop CC and other Creative Cloud applications, Adobe stated that it would continue to sale CS6 and offer support; however, Adobe has no plans for future releases of Creative Suite or other CS products.

Adobe Shows Off Raw Processing in Early Build of Lightroom for iPad

Lightroom product manager Tom Hogarty showed off raw image processing on an iPad on Scott Kelby’s ‘The Grid‘. The winks and nods during the discussion of the app’s features point to Lightroom for the iPad, which seemingly extends beyond just raw processing and also permits you to organize your library.

While they don’t show off the organization features in the early-build of the app, it appears that it will rely heavily on a cloud connection in order to sync the Lightroom library across devices. Check out the video below (the iPad Lightroom talk kicks off around 19mins). [Read more…]
