The three new DSLR Alpha models from Sony now appear to be all-but-official with leaked images on the Sony Style sites now making their rounds on blogs and forums accross the Interwebs. Again, the models appear to be the Sony A380, Sony A330 and Sony A230, which would obviously replace the existing Sony A350, Sony A300 and Sony A200, respectively. [Read more…]
Sony’s New Alpha Lenses – Up Close
Unfortunately, details are slim on Sony’s new super telephoto lens; however, I did manage to get some up close images of all of the new lenses from Sony. No details on the focal length of the super telephoto lens or anything else, other than what you see in the mock up models.
Again, the new lens lineup is as follows:
Undisclosed Sony G Super Telephoto
28-75mm f/2.8
DT 30mm f/2.8 Macro
DT 50mm f/1.8
DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
DT 55-200mm f/4-5.6
Expect some of these lenses to start hitting the market possibly as soon as this Summer. Sorry, but that’s all the detail that Sony is giving us for now.
Plenty more images below. [Read more…]
Sony A200 Review at PopPhoto
PopPhoto has posted a review of the Sony A200.
All in all, Sony’s Alpha 200 is a capable bargain-priced DSLR. Once you consider that the kit comes with a longer-than-usual 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for only $500, it becomes a steal.

Sony A200 Review at Digital Camera Info
Digital Camera Info has posted a review of the Sony A200.
The camera is responsive, feels good in your hand and lets you take very nice pictures. What’s more, it comes with a lens with a wider zoom range than more expensive models, plus in-camera image stabilization that means you can benefit from anti-shake technology without investing in pricey stabilized lenses.

Sony A900 and Zeiss Lens Updates
The Sony A900 has been officially unveiled. See Photography Bay’s Sony A900 Announcement and Sony A900 Reviews and Resources for more info.
We all know that Sony’s flagship, the A900, will be announced at or around Photokina in August. Other than the announcement time frame, info has been hard to come by. Sony has been short on further details about the A900 since it announced the 24 megapixel sensor at PMA in January of this year. A big question that photographers seem to have surrounding the announcement of new, cutting edge cameras relates to their actual release date. Sometimes it can take quite a while for the camera to actually hit store shelves, which can be quite frustrating.
With that in mind, I recently received some info from a source, who wishes to remain anonymous, regarding the availability of the upcoming A900 and new Zeiss lenses.
First, the A900 will be available for purchase around the end of September or first of October.
In addition to the A900, we can expect at least 2 new Zeiss lenses:
- Zeiss 16-35mm f/2.8
- Zeiss 35mm f/1.4
Many Sony Alpha users have been begging for more high quality primes, so the Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 should fit the bill just fine. Additionally, it’s nice to see the 16-35mm zoom in Zeiss glass for those wide angles on the new full frame 24 MP sensor. At 24 megapixels, the A900 is going to need some high quality glass to make full use of all those pixels.
Finally, the price should be very competitive compared to the other DSLRs in the range of the A900. This adds a little more credibility to the previous rumors regarding the A900’s sub-$2000 price point.

Sony A350 Review at Steve’s Digicams
Steve’s Digicams has posted a review of the Sony A350.
At about US$899 or less as tested, I feel the A350 offers a great value for such a well balanced camera. The Live View performance offered by the A350 is way ahead of its competitors.
Sony Alpha A350 Review at DC Resource
DC Resource has posted a review of the new 14.2 megapixel Sony A350.
Camera performance was excellent in most areas. The DSLR-A350 is ready to start taking pictures as soon as you flip the power switch. The camera focuses very quickly, except in low light, where things were a little sluggish. Shutter lag wasn’t an issue (even when using live view), and shot-to-shot delays were minimal.

Sony A350 Review
The Sony A350 is a 14.2 megapixel DSLR, which was introduced at PMA 2008. The A350 features a breakthrough Live View function that offers straightforward and easy-to-use image framing and auto-focusing with the rear LCD panel. What’s more, the display alternates so that you can get up high or down low without straining your neck or getting on the ground. As noted in Photography Bay’s Hands-On Preview of the A350, the articulating LCD and Live View function work quite well together. In fact, these features set the Sony A350 apart from other entry-level DSLRs, including the Nikon D60 and Canon Rebel XSi. [Read more…]

The standard of images from the A350 is generally very high. Even when the camera may struggle, features such as the Dynamic Range Optimiser and adjusting parameters of white balance presets make tweaks easy to carry out.
