DSLR Beginners Kits by Photography Bay

May 19, 2016 By Eric Reagan

Canon Beginners Kit by Photography Bay

Here is a new Canon DSLR kit from B&H Photo for which I custom selected the products and asked B&H to provide discounts to Photography Bay readers (which they did $$$). I have a Canon kit for now (a Nikon kit is in the works) and if these turn out to be popular, there may be more down the line.

My thoughts on putting together these kits were to select quality, reliable and affordable DSLR kits for beginners. These are kits that are a good fit for most beginners who just don’t know what they are looking for but would like a quality camera at a good price.

There are no cheap tripods or junk accessories inside these kits. This is gear that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to my mom or my best friends if they wanted a first “serious” camera. Check out what’s in the Canon kit below.

Canon Beginners Kit by Photography Bay

  • Canon Rebel T6 Kit w/ 18-55mm IS II Lens
  • Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens
  • SanDisk 32GB Extreme UHS-I U3 SDHC Memory Card
  • Vello IR-C2 Remote
  • Slik Sprint 150 Tripod with SBH-150DQ Ball Head
  • LensPen
  • Ruggard Commando 25 Shoulder Bag
  • Understanding Exposure by Brian Peterson (Book)
  • Total Cost = $683.92

If you bought these items separately, it would cost $749.45 right now. So, a big thanks to B&H for giving Photography Bay readers a deal. You can order the Canon Beginners Kit here at B&H Photo.

7 Beginners Tips for Shooting Sports and Action

October 6, 2009 By Chris Gampat

Astana Team Time Trial by Eric Reagan

In sports and wildlife shooting, it’s all about getting that one particular moment that happens within a fraction of a second. Mastering the techniques to shooting sports will be able to help you progress as a photographer as those skills can be used in other forms such as photojournalism, weddings and street candids. My mentor, who has shot NY Knick games, has been kind enough to pass along some of his knowledge to me.

Here are 7 quick tips for those of you wanting to get better at shooting sports and fast action. Hint: You don’t need a camera that shoots 8fps like the Canon 7D, but it can help.

Note: Several of the photos in this article are from a recent trip to a Medieval Festival where the chance to really use the correct lenses and a better quality camera was presented to me. [Read more…]
