The latest rumors on the Canon mirrorless front point to a trio of new lenses coming for the compact shooter with the big sensor. Those 3 new lenses include: [Read more…]
Canon 70D, 7D Mark II, EOS M2 and 1DSx Rumors
Several rumors of upcoming Canon DSLRs appeared in a Japanese magazine, along with what appears to be confidence ratings on the chance that they’ll surface in 2013. Atop the list are the Canon 70D and 7D Mark II with a 70% and 85% likelihood chance, respectively, that we’ll see them this year as obvious replacements to the current Canon 60D and 7D. Key rumored specs for the 70D and 7D Mark II include a 24MP APS-C sensor and sensitivity up to ISO 25,600. [Read more…]
Canon 7D Mark II Rumored for February Announcement
The latest rumors for the Canon 7D Mark II point to a February 2013 announcement and April 2013 ship date. Given the age of the original Canon 7D (it was announced in Sept. 2009), these dates sure seem reasonable.
Rumored specs for the 7D Mark II include the following: [Read more…]
Canon France Teases New Camera in “Creativity with a twist” Ad
Canon France posted what appears to be a new ad campaign teaser for what looks like it could be a new video camera. Along with the above ad, Canon France posted the following message:
Soon, we will share information that will change the way you look at the world…
With CES 2013 just around the corner, we should know soon enough. Based on the way the girl is holding her hand up in the teaser ad, it seems like this should be some sort of palm-sized video camera with an articulating (or twisting) display. [Read more…]
Canon G1X Successor Due at CES 2013?
A recent patent from Canon reveals plans for an 18-70mm f/2.8-5.8 zoom lens, which would be a practical fit for an APS-C follow-up to the Canon G1X and its 1.85x-cropped sensor, which measured 15-60mm at f/2.8-5.8. [Read more…]
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS “Unicorn” Lens in the Works?
For the better part of a decade, there have been rumors and wishes spread around the interwebs for a 24-70mm f/2.8 IS lens to come about from Canon. Recently, we’ve seen Tamron introduce such a lens that is available for Canon DSLRs. Despite its positive reception, it’s still not a Canon L lens.
A lot of Canon shooters figured all hope was lost when Canon introduced the EF 24-70mm f/4L IS lens earlier this Fall. For many, this was not the lens they were hoping for and the 24-70mm f/2.8 lens with Image Stabilization seemed like a pipe dream even more than before.
However, new rumors of the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lens point to an actual announcement in the next 18 months – most likely around the end of next year. Canon Rumors reports that two sources have confirmed the lens’ existence and that it really will make it to market.
Is the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lens the one you’ve been waiting for? What are you willing to pay for it? (BTW, my guess would be that it retails just south of $3k given the $2300 retail of the current non-IS version.)
New Canon EOS-M Model w/ Viewfinder Coming in 2013?
This could be as much of an educated guess as a rumor. Nevertheless, recent rumors point to a new Canon EOS-M model that sports an electronic viewfinder to be unveiled in late 2013.
One of the most lamented non-features of the Canon EOS-M has been the absence of a viewfinder. Enthusiasts were lambasting Canon before the EOS-M ever hit store shelves over the lack of an EVF. While Canon never confirms what’s coming down the line for its camera systems, executives have emphasized that the EOS-M was its first foray into the mirrorless market and that there will me more cameras built for different users.
Additional rumors point to the styling of the camera as similar to the current EOS-M model and that it won’t be taking a retro design like some of the other mirrorless models out there (e.g., Olympus, Fuji, etc.).
Canon 7D Mark II to Be Aimed at Sports and Wildlife Shooters
Consistent with the last round of rumors and speculation, new word over at Northlight Images points to the rumored 7D Mark II‘s place among sports and wildlife photographers thanks to a spicy 10 fps frame rate.
The 10 fps rate is seen as an important feature, along with many features derived from 1DX developments, particularly AF and lower light performance. Sensor size would be advertised as 21MP, but faster and less noisy than the 7D (25MP was apparently seen as not offering enough image quality). The 6D is aimed at a proportion of the 7D market, giving more flexibility in upping the 7Dmk2 specifications (and price). The current 7D will continue for some time and surplant the 60D, when the 700D comes along with increased specifications. –Northlight Images
Previously rumored specs include the following:
- 24.2mp APS-C Sensor
- 10.2 fps
- Dual DIGIC V
- Dual Card Slot
- New Ergonomic Design
- New Battery

New Canon EF-S Lens Rumored for First Half of 2013
Canon Rumors has info that Canon will bring some new EF-S lenses for its APS-C format cameras during the first half 0f 2013 to go along with the rumored Canon 7D Mark II.
Rumored lenses include an EF-S zoom fisheye lens, as well as a new macro IS lens. As noted by CR, the EF-S 18-200mm IS lens is due for a replacement and would be a logical choice to get Canon’s new STM focus motor to play nice with video AF on entry-level DSLRs like the Canon Rebel T4i and its eventual successor.
