How to Shoot Timelapse on the Canon 7D Mark II

One of the great new features on the Canon 7D Mark II is the ability to shoot timelapse photos without the need for the overpriced Canon TC-80N3, which was required on prior Canon pro and prosumer DSLRs if you wanted to shoot in interval mode.

However, when the Canon 7D Mark II was initially announced, there was some confusion about its timelapse capabilities because some of the initial specs and documentation referenced that it could be programmed to capture photos in intervals between 1 and 99 images. That would suck and be pretty much a pointless feature since a second of video footage from a timelapse would contain at least 24 images (e.g., 1080p video at 24fps).  [Read more…]

Canon Officially Announces the Connect Station CS100

Canon has been working on a photo and video viewing station for TVs for more than 5 years. Initially shown as a prototype at the 2010 Canon Expo in NYC, the device has finally been officially announce for public sale.

CES 2015 Preview

Holy cow! 2014 blew right by us. There were so many great new cameras and photo gear accessories released in 2014. Just a couple that stick out are the Sony A7S and Panasonic GH4, which were the first two real 4K-capable prosumer cameras to hit the market. Canon 6D Firmware ver. 1.1.6

The Canon 6D has received a firmware update to version 1.1.6, which includes the following fixes:

  1. Fixes a phenomenon in which the camera may not first use the center AF point to focus, when the AF point selection is set to automatic in AI Servo AF mode.
  2. Fixes a phenomenon in which focus cannot be finely adjusted with specific lenses when shooting remotely with EOS Utility software.
  3. Corrects some Ukrainian language displayed on the menu for ISO Setting.

The new Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens is scheduled to start shipping this week. It is a long-awaited replacement for the old 100-400mm L model that has been around for 16 years now. The first copies of the new model should ship out on Friday, Dec. 12. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
