B&H has the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 lens for $339 again (reg. $399) with free shipping and 2% rewards. I have this lens and love it. It has been a solid lens over the years and is well worth this sale price. Check it out here at B&H Photo.

The upcoming replacement for the PowerShot G1 X has leaked out a few days before release. The camera is rumored to have a slimmer body and lighter weight, as well as an external EVF. Most notable, the lens is expected to be improved to a 24-120mm f/2-3.9 lens (compared to the f/2.8-5.8 lens on the original G1 X).
Additionally, the G1 X successor should be equipped with a DIGIC 6 processor and cost around $700 USD.

Canon introduced the EOS 650 35mm camera in 1987. Since then, the company has produced over 70 million cameras (as of February 5, 2014).
That’s an astounding number of interchangeable lens cameras. Perhaps even more astounding is the fact that Canon has sold roughly 100 million lenses for those cameras over the same time period. While Canon hasn’t officially declared it produced that many lenses yet, I expect that announcement to come in the next few weeks. Canon reached the 90 million lens mark in May 2013 and it seems that Canon is cranking out 10 million lenses every 8-9 months.
The ratio of cameras to lenses is something I’m sure Canon wishes it could improve upon. [Read more…]

The Canon PowerShot G1 X was a bit of an odd camera with its not-quite-APS-C sensor (around 1.85x) and rather slow lens. However, Canon appears to be prepped to launch a successor to the still powerful compact camera this month. [Read more…]

New rumors point to a second quarter 2014 unveiling date for the 7D Mark II, with actual availability not until third quarter.
There are really no new spec rumors at this point; however, the launch timeframe has been consistent for almost a year now. The one thing about the specs, however, that has been consistent since early rumors of the 7D Mark II started festering is the video-centric feature set. [Read more…]

Canon has submitted a patent application for three fast telephoto lenses with image stabilization. The patent application covers EF 85mm f/1.8 IS, 100mm f/2 IS and 135mm f/2.8 IS lenses. Canon has been adding IS to its mid-range line of lenses (like the EF 24mm f/2.8 IS and EF 28mm f/2.8 IS), along with rumors that other mid-range lenses like the 50mm f/1.4 are going to get image stabilization in a new version – perhaps as early as this year.

The latest rumors suggest that the next Canon DSLR coming to us will be an entry-level model situated below the Canon Rebel SL1 and will be showcased at CP+ next month.
Recall that the Rebel SL1 was announced in March 2013 and turned out to be a fantastic little camera. I liked it so much that I bought one for myself. It is a great camera to carry when paired with the EF 40mm f/2.8 ST lens.
I look forward to seeing if Canon will continue this new compact line, or if this will be more like an update to the very low-end Rebel T3.
