Sony CLM-V55 Official Details and Images Released

Sony just dropped the official details and product photos of the new 5-inch CLM-V55 monitor for Alpha DSLRs – or just about any other DSLR with an HDMI-out.

Sony CLM-V55 Key Features

  • Clip-on attachment for Sony hot shoe or standard ISO hot/cold shoe
  • 5-inch WVGA LCD (800 x 480 resolution)
  • Tilt/swivel mount
  • Pixel magnification for 1:1 zoom of HD image
  • 16:9 and 4:3 on-screen markers
  • Brightness, contrast, colour tone (phase), colour temp and auto dimmer controls
  • Mono speaker
  • Headphone jack
  • Volume control
  • Battery (included) or AC powered

Sony CLM-V55 External Monitor for Alpha DSLRs

Sony had a new external video monitor on display at CES 2011.  The new 5-inch CLM-V55 monitor connects via HDMI inputs and will produce a live view from the camera’s sensor thanks to a coming firmware update for the A55, A33, A580 and A560 Alpha cameras. [Read more…]

“Idiot With a Tripod” Deserving of Oscar says Ebert, Shot With Canon 7D

During the snow storm in NYC a few days ago, Jamie Stuart grabbed his Canon 7D, a tripod and a heavy coat, then headed out into the elements to capture what Roger Ebert says “deserves to win the Academy Award for best live-action short subject. (1) Because of its wonderful quality. (2) Because of its role as homage. It is directly inspired by Dziga Vertov’s 1929 silent classic “Man With a Movie Camera.” (3) Because it represents an almost unbelievable technical proficiency.”

RED EPIC Has Shipped

As confirmed by a REDUser.net forum posting, the first of the RED EPIC models has left the building to Mark Pederson, of OffHollywood.

Pederson followed up the announcement with a “flashback to 2006” where he recounts his early involvement with RED before there was even a sensor for the RED ONE being produced. [Read more…]

RED EPIC and ONE Captures ‘Fourteen Actors Acting’

The New York Times has a video gallery of 14 actors shot as classic screen types.  Featured actors include Natalie Portman, Jesse Eisenberg, Matt Damon and Robert Duvall, among others.  The project was directed by Solve Sundsbo and shot with RED EPIC and RED ONE cameras.  Check it out on the New York Times website.

Sony NXCAM HD Camcorder in Development, Uses NEX E-Mount

Sony is teasing the development of a new pro-level NXCAM camcorder that uses the same E-Mount lenses found on the popular NEX-series of cameras, like the 18-200mm lens packaged with the Sony NEX-VG10.

Because the NXCAM uses features the E-Mount system, it can accept Sony Alpha mount lenses like the 70-400mm with the aid of the LA-EA1 adapter, which appears to be attached in the above screenshots.

Good news on the recording format front – it looks like the NXCAM will feature full 1920 x 1080 resolution in AVCHD format at a variety of frame rates, including 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p and the all-important 24p.  Check out the video below for the rest of the teaser. [Read more…]
