June 16, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Adobe Creative Cloud

Adobe has clearly been reconsidering its marketing to photographers since the major pushback from Photoshop users after revealed that it would no longer offer perpetual licenses of new Creative Suite products. The latest word in the form of surveys to some Photoshop users that probed feelings on Creative Cloud pricing.

The interesting thing is that the two key concerns are some that have been raised here before. [Read more…]

Photoshop CC and the rest of the new Creative Cloud apps from Adobe launch tomorrow.

Are you a Creative Cloud subscriber, and will you be downloading the new apps immediately?

If you aren’t a Creative Cloud subscriber (and since a Creative Cloud subscription is the only way to get the new apps), will Photoshop CC’s (or another app) new features push you to become one?

Sound off in the comments below.

Opening Photoshop CC Files in Older Versions of Photoshop IS Possible

June 9, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Photoshop CC

One of the major complaints of Adobe’s move to the Creative Cloud has been the fear of losing access to files if and when a user ends their subscription to Creative Cloud. However, early reports suggest that files created in Photoshop CC can be opened in older version of Photoshop, including files that have been altered with Photoshop CC-only effects/features. Adobe Confirms Photoshop CC Release for June 17

June 4, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Photoshop CC

Adobe has confirmed that it will release Photoshop CC on June 17.

As you well know by now, the next version of Photoshop is slated for exclusive release to Creative Cloud subscribers, which has been a hotly-debated topic in recent weeks. Those wishing to maintain a perpetual license will be limited to Photoshop CS6, which Adobe will continue to sell. However, the killer new features will only be available in Photoshop CC going forward.

Currently, Adobe has deals for students that allow for full Creative Cloud subscriptions at $20/mo (ends June 25) and those with CS3 or higher serial numbers can join for $30/mo (ends July 31).

Will Adobe Offer a “Regular” License of Photoshop Again?

May 29, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Adobe Creative Cloud

Adobe recently released a statement acknowledging some of the major complaints surrounding Creative Cloud and Photoshop CC.

In the statement ,Adobe gave particular attention to photographers, who have apparently been the most vocal group among Adobe’s customers dissatisfied with the Creative Cloud offerings. Adobe alludes to an option for the photography community that will be different from what’s already on the table for Creative Cloud apps (i.e., Photoshop and Lightroom subscriptions). [Read more…]

Adobe’s Big Creative Cloud Move – Livecast

May 11, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Creative Cloud

I’m going to be on with Jimmy Beltz over at PhotoTips for a Livecast as we talk about Adobe’s new Creative Cloud decision. Jimmy tells me that he’s spoken with Adobe and they would be watching the Livecast as well.

We’ll be talking through the specifics of the new Creative Cloud move, and will take questions and comments from others who join in.

If you want to join us, we’ll be kicking off at 1PM ET. You can find the Livecast here on Spreecast.

If you missed it, the replay is embedded below.

Updated: I just wanted to follow-up on a point where I misspoke. Someone asked a question about the download and installation process of Creative Cloud apps. Specifically, the question was whether it was a DMG file for Macs. I said it was; however, it’s actually some kind of application manager from Adobe that installs the individual apps without having to deal with DMG files. Sorry for the mix up.

Adobe Creative Cloud and the Death of Boxed Software

May 9, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Adobe Creative Cloud

What a week it has been.

Many pro and amateur photographers, along with many other creative pros and enthusiasts, woke up Monday morning looking forward to what might come out of the Adobe MAX conference as the latest Adobe products were set to be unveiled.

Adobe teased us for several weeks leading up to Adobe MAX, including an impressive showing of new video products at NAB 2013. Many of us were nearly on pins and needles with anticipation based on what we had seen thus far.

I mean, this stuff just keeps better and better.

And Then… The Hammer Dropped.

Adobe killed perpetual licenses of almost all of its creative software. Creative Cloud is the future. The only future.

Sure, you can still buy CS6 licenses, and you will own those in perpetuity. Although, you won’t get the whiz-bang new features for CS6. Ever.

Deep down, most of us knew this was coming. However, I don’t think many of us guessed it would happen this year. I sure didn’t. [Read more…]

Adobe Shows Off Raw Processing in Early Build of Lightroom for iPad

May 2, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Adobe Lightroom for iPad

Lightroom product manager Tom Hogarty showed off raw image processing on an iPad on Scott Kelby’s ‘The Grid‘. The winks and nods during the discussion of the app’s features point to Lightroom for the iPad, which seemingly extends beyond just raw processing and also permits you to organize your library.

While they don’t show off the organization features in the early-build of the app, it appears that it will rely heavily on a cloud connection in order to sync the Lightroom library across devices. Check out the video below (the iPad Lightroom talk kicks off around 19mins). [Read more…]

Photoshop 13.0.4 and 13.1.2 Update Fixes “Trial Screen” Error

January 17, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Earlier this week, I tried to open Photoshop CS6 and received a message that I could continue with a free trial or put in my serial number. Even though I had been using Premiere Pro CS6 all day and they are both part of the same Creative Cloud subscription, Photoshop just wouldn’t open for me. After two hours of troubleshooting and a call to Adobe customer support, I was finally able to use Photoshop again.

As it turns out, this was a bug and an update is available to fix this problem for both Creative Cloud users and boxed-copy users with serial numbers. Details from Adobe on the update below. [Read more…]
