Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM Lens Firmware Update ver. 1.2.0

Canon has issued a firmware update for the EF 40mm f/2.8 STM lens.

Firmware Version 1.2.0 addresses the following phenomenon.

1. If pressure is applied to the lens barrel while the lens is mounted to the camera (pressure can be applied even while attaching the lens cap or while carrying the camera with the lens attached in a bag), the autofocusing function of the lens may stop working.

Magic Lantern Update Version 2.3 Now Available for Free

Magic Lantern Version 2.3

Magic Lantern’s latest firmware release version 2.3 is now available for free download from the Magic Lantern website.

By all reports, this version looks to be the most stable, ambitious and feature-packed version yet.  Magic Lantern 2.3 works on the Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 50D, Canon 60D, Canon Rebel T1i / 500D,Canon Rebel T2i / 550D and Canon Rebel T3i / 600D.

Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM AF Problem – Product Advisory

Canon EF 40mm STM

Canon issued a product advisory for the new EF 40mm f/2.8 STM lens.  The AF may stop working when enough pressure is applied to the lens barrel while attached to a camera.

The current fix is to remove the lens and reattach it.  A firmware update should be available soon to fix the problem altogether.

I haven’t experienced this problem yet.

Leica X2 Firmware Update Ver. 1.1

Leica has issued a firmware update for the X2.  Firmware version 1.1 includes the following improvements:

  1. Improved noise as from ISO 1600
  2. Improved automatic white balancing
  3. General improvements and performance optimization

Canon 60D Firmware Update 1.1.1

Canon 60D

Canon has issued a firmware update for the 60D.  The new firmware version 1.1.1 includes the following updates:

  1. Fixes a phenomenon where the camera’s serial number that is displayed in the shooting information of the image does not display the correct serial number. *1)
  2. Corrects errors in the Greek, Italian, and Portuguese menu screens.
