New Magic Lantern Firmware for 5D Mark II

December 13, 2010 By Eric Reagan

There’s a new beta version of the Magic Lantern firmware that ups the 5D Mark II‘s bit rate up to a maximum of 76Mbps, although 66Mbps is the best sustainable bit rate in 24p mode.  In order to keep the buffer clear at such a high bit rate, you’ll definitely need a fast CF card.

Focus 35 Skater Dolly Review

December 9, 2010 By Eric Reagan

The Focus 35 Rotation 360 Skater Dolly is a compact dolly designed for use with HDSLRs and prosumer camcorders.  It is based on a 1/4″ aluminum plate with axles on the front and rear and 4 ball-bearing wheels.  It’s almost like a baby skateboard – hence the “Skater Dolly” name. [Read more…]

Nikon D7000 Sample Video Footage

October 27, 2010 By Eric Reagan

No doubt that the Nikon D7000 is creating some buzz with its low light sensitivity and 1080 24p HD video capture.  The above video from Will Boisture demonstrates a little bit of what the D7000 can do at ISO 2000-5000.

Also, a couple more sample footage tracks from Chris McDaniel below. [Read more…]

DSLR Video Editing for Photographers

DSLR Video Editing in Premiere Pro CS5

Adobe Evangelist Jason Levine recently uploaded his final chapter in his 5-part series that covered DSLR Video Editing for Photographers using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.  Previously, I passed along parts 1 through 3.  Since this is the final video in the series, I’ve embedded all 5 in this post below.

It’s good content, especially for those of us knew to the video side of DSLRs.  Enjoy.

Manfrotto 700RC2 Fluid Video Head Review

September 26, 2010 By Eric Reagan

The Manfrotto 700RC2 is a basic, fluid head head for use with video cameras up to 5.5 pounds.  At around $90 street price, this is an entry-level head with little in the way of creature comforts.

The 700RC2 still gives you a quick release plate, and it has a pan arm rosette on the right side of the head for adjusting the angle of the solid pan arm included with the head.  The 700RC2 also has separate pan and tilt friction locks.

New Sony DSLRs on September 13?

August 9, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Sony Alpha Entry-Level DSLR w/ AVCHD

Word is out that Sony Europe has scheduled a press conference for September 13, 2010.  With the tease of DSLRs that capture AVCHD video earlier this year and recent rumors of the new A33, A55, A560 and A580 model numbers, this seems likely to be the drop date for the new AVCHD DSLRs from Sony.
