Alongside, the new flagship D4, Nikon has announced a new 85mm f/1.8G lens. The new lens offers FX-format coverage for use on both FX cameras like the Nikon D4 and DX cameras like the Nikon D7000.
The Nikon 85mm f/1.8G Lens should be available in March at an initial retail price of $499.95. Check availability on B&H, Amazon and Adorama.

There are 65 million NIKKOR lenses in the world. Nikon announced that it reached the 65 million mark at the beginning of October 2011. It hit the 60 million mark in March of this year, just a couple of months after Canon did the same. It’s pretty amazing that the two companies are so close in total lens production given the amount of time they’ve been at it.

B&H alerted me that it has a limited supply of the Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.4 lens in stock. I was told you need to act quick if you want one of these because they are in short supply. Here’s the link to the lens at B&H Photo.
We have been waiting for this news since Nikon posted its new AF-S 50mm lens on its website and then removed it last week. Finally, the lens has been officially unveiled (permanently this time) and it’s got a decent price point of $220. All I can say is that it’s about time!
The Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8 lens should be available beginning on June 16, 2011. You can watch for availability on Amazon (update: pre-order up on Amazon), B&H Photo and Adorama.

If there has ever been demand for a company to produce a single lens, it’s the Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8 lens. Ever since the Nikon D40 came out (with it’s lack of AF motor), Nikon users have been clamoring for something to replace the staple 50mm f/1.8D lens. Heck, I even wrote an open letter to Nikon last year pleading for this lens with a built-in AF motor.
