Gitzo Traveler 6x Tripod and G1178M Ball Head

The Gitzo Traveler 6x (Model GT1541T) is a lightweight, carbon fiber tripod that’s great for packing around.  While it’s not the most affordable tripod you’ll come across, if quality and lightweight are important in a tripod, you’ll be very pleased with the Traveler 6x. [Read more…]

Think Tank Photo Rotation 360 Camera Backpack Review

October 12, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Think Tank Photo Rotation 360

The Think Tank Rotation 360 camera backpack is a pretty amazing contraption. It’s a new take on the camera backpack concept.  We’ve seen sling bags and other variations on the backpack.  As far as I know though, the Rotation 360 is the only one that lets you keep the backpack completely on your back while retrieving your camera. Project 10-50

October 12, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Interesting in shaking things up in your photography? How about shaking things up by using a single, 50mm lens for a year?

That’s what Project 10-50 is all about – “making pictures of the year 2010 with the use of 50mm prime lenses only.”

It doesn’t matter the brand of your camera or the model of your lens – so long as it’s 50mm in length.  And, we’re big fans of the 50mm lenses.

Here’s the pitch from the Project 10-50 crew to you:

We’ve just started a new initiative: Project 10-50.

It’s all about photographing with nothing but 50mm prime lenses – one year long: 2010 (hence 10-50 …).

Any brand camera or lens will do – as long as it’s a 50mm prime only. Besides beautiful stunning pictures we’re looking for something to learn from eachother as well.  So every picture posted has to contain the EXIF data and if possible ‘the story’ behind it. We want to read how people had to ‘work’ to ‘make’ the picture instead of just ‘taking’ it with a comfortable super-dooper-zoom lens.

The word is starting to spread already and people are starting to join.

Will you help us making it a little bigger too?

Pentax Clearance

October 11, 2009 By Eric Reagan

RitzCamera.com (not the bankrupt brick & mortar stores) is clearing out some Pentax stock.  I checked on a few of the prices and it seems like a pretty good deal for those of you Pentax shooters out there.

There are DSLRs (the K20D seems to be discontinued at most retailers), point and shoot cameras, lenses, flashes, batteries, grips, etc. in the clearance.  Here’s the link.

Nikon D3s Rumor Update

October 8, 2009 By Eric Reagan

Poorly Photoshopped Nikon D3s

The Nikon D3s may be announced on October 14.  Apparently, there is a Nikon press event set for that date and all signs point to a D3s, which is consistent with previous rumors.  The Nikon D3 is out of stock just about everywhere.  Rumored specs include a frame rate of 14 fps and 1080p HD video capture, as well as a sensitivity range of ISO 200-12800 (expandable up to ISO 102,400 equivalent) on a tweaked 12.1 mp FX sensor.

The rumored release date is next Wednesday folks.  Stay tuned to see what, if anything, Nikon has in store for us.
