Adobe Revel 1.5 Now Available

Adobe has updated its cloud photo album app, Revel, to version 1.5.  The new version adds the following features:

  • Albums to organize photos – Create an album on one device and it is automatically updated and accessible everywhere
  • Sharing albums on the Web – Share private albums with friends and family via AdobeRevel.com
  • Captions – Add context to memories with text descriptions
  • An updated all new UI makes the app more intuitive and easier to navigate
  • Library grid view – Browse photos in track or grid view
  • Sign in with Facebook or Google IDs – Eliminate the hassle of remembering another password by logging in with a Facebook or Google ID and password

Adobe Revel operates on a subscription basis – either $5.99/month or $59.99/year.  With Revel, you can sync an unlimited number of images across your devices.  It is available via the Mac App Store (for Macs) and the iTunes App Store (for iPhone and iPad).

Topaz has updated photoFXlab to version 1.2.  In this latest version, you have the ability to save your project (layers using a new topaz file format), 3-party plug-in support (for select .8bf plug-ins), cropping grid overlay (stand-alone mode only), and Apple Aperture plug-in support.

If you aren’t familiar with photoFXlab, it is a standalone application that can also be accessed as a plugin. It allows you to work with layers of Topaz effects in a single interface.

Topaz has also extended the $50 savings through August 31.  Just use the coupon code CreateFX at checkout on Topaz Labs’ website to get photoFXlab for $29.95.

OS X Mountain Lion and Adobe CS Compatibility

If you are a Mac user, then you probably are well aware that Apple released OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion this week.  By all accounts, it’s an improvement over 10.7 Lion.

If you are a holdout (like I was), then you may still be using OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.  I was concerned about losing 32-bit app compatibility, quirks in other 64-bit apps and the death of Spaces (something I use all day, everyday).

Having mulled Mountain Lion over for several weeks, I bit the bullet this week and upgraded from Snow Leopard.  Based on most of what I had read, CS6 app stability and speed improves with Mountain Lion.  Since that’s the software suite I use more than anything else, I went for it.   [Read more…]

Noiseware 5 Plugin for Photoshop

Imagenomic just announced Noiseware 5, an update to the Noiseware Pro noise reduction plugin for Photoshop.

Noiseware 5 features several new and improved enhancements, including a faster core algorithm that retains more image detail, a newly-designed user interface and controls, the ability to create an unlimited number of presets, and a new history control for an unlimited number of history steps.  In addition, Noiseware 5 plugin provides 64-bit native support for Mac OS X to complement the existing compatibility for Windows systems, as well as full compatibility with Adobe Photoshop CS6.

Noiseware 5 retails for $79.95 and is free upgrade for existing Noiseware Pro users.  Noiseware 5 is available for purchase or a free 15-day trial on Imagenomic’s website.

Photoshop Tip: Justifying Text

If you have ever added text to an image using the type tool in Photoshop and later decided that you wanted create a different paragraph justification style (as opposed to the available right-, center- or left-align options), you may have been frustrated to discover that the justification options in the paragraph palette were grayed out.

There are a couple of ways to make sure you have the ability to justify text in your chosen format when working with the type tool in Photoshop.  I can confirm that the following directions work in Photoshop CS5 and CS6. [Read more…]

Unified Color Updates 32 Float v2 HDR Plug-in for Photoshop CS6

Unified Color Technologies has released an update for its Photoshop plug-in HDR software, 32 Float v2, which adds compatibility with Adobe Photoshop CS6.

Users on 32 Float will need to install the latest update from Unified Color’s website or through the in-program update process. In addition, Unified Color will also be running a summer promotion offering 10% off all their software through June 29.
