Ricoh GXR P10 Announced

Ricoh has expanded its GXR system with the introduction of the P10 module, which features a 28-300mm equivalent lens and a 10MP backlit CMOS sensor. The P10 module also features sensor shift image stabilization, RAW image capture, and is capable of recording 720p HD video.

Lights, Camera, Capture is a book by Bob Davis that discusses creative lighting techniques. While Davis discusses many lighting equipment options, his primary focus is on Canon Speedlites using TTL metering. And, while the techniques that apply to Canon Speedlites are prevalent throughout the book, the info will easily translate to Nikon shooters using the Nikon Creative Lighting System as well. I’ve seen some clever DIY setups for HDDSLR rigs and focus pullers; however, Jonathan Bergqvist’s wooden rendition for his Canon 7D in the above video takes the cake. The integrated focus puller on the left handle is really a nice touch.

Manfrotto 501HDV Fluid Tripod Head Review
The Manfrotto 501HDV is a dedicated video fluid head. As camera manufacturers add more and more DSLRs with HD video capture, photographers’ interest in video seems to be growing at an exponential rate. I know my interest has been piqued since I picked up a 5D Mark II roughly a year and a half ago. One thing we’re learning though, is that good photo equipment doesn’t necessarily make good video equipment as well. [Read more…]
Zoner Photo Studio 12 Free

Zoner Photo Studio 12 Free is a new photo management and editing software program available for personal and non-commercial use. While I haven’t used this new free edition yet, I have used Zoner Software’s professional version of Zoner Photo Studio and have been mostly pleased with its capabilities. Based on this past experience and what the new free version looks like, I think Windows users looking for an inexpensive photo management and basic editing solution would do well to give this a try.

Topaz Labs DeNoise 4 Adds IntelliNoise Technology
Topaz Labs have released DeNoise 4 with IntelliNoise technology, which is a new proprietary noise reduction method developed to reduce noise and maintain maximum detail. DeNoise 4 is a plug-in that works with Photoshop, Aperture and Lightroom.
DeNoise 4 is available direct from Topaz Labs for $79.99. A free trial is also available.

Tiffen Updates Dfx Digital Filter for Photoshop CS5
Tiffen has updated its Dfx Digital Filter software for Adobe Photoshop CS5 and other Creative Suite 5 programs. The plug-ins for Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere Pro CS5 are now fully compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit Mac and Windows platforms.
