Following up on the Canon 90D rumors from earlier this week, the indication that it would be the final APS-C DSLR that Canon produces gain a little more traction with today’s rumors that there will be no EF-mount successor to the Canon 7D Mark II.
The discontinued notice for the Canon 7D Mark II body on B&H Photo’s website provides no comfort in the situation with no replacement in sight. According to Canon Rumors, recent communications between retailers and Canon point to assurances from Canon that “this concern will be addressed sometime later in 2019.”
This suggests that the Canon 90D “up-spec’ing” in the recent rumors may have some teeth to it and that the 7D feature set would likely find its way into the EOS R product line. Whether we end up a with an APS-C format in the EOS R product line is an entirely different question.

If it wasn’t for the 90D rumors saying it would have DUAL PROCESSORS I would never have imagined Canon dropping the 7D series. I really like my 7D Mk2 (except that the exposure meter was removed from the top LCD screen when shooting in Manual mode, unlike every other Canon body I’ve ever owned).
With Canon finally building momentum toward mirrorless I’m sure there are big plans in the works, probably exactly what you were saying about seeing the 7D feature set in upcoming EOS R bodies, which I absolutely welcome!

That would be a big disappointment if the 7D line is discontinued. Maybe Nikon has some nice cameras?

If the rumors are true, the 7D features will transfer to the 90D and whatever mirrorless camera takes its place.

If I have to replace my EF lenses maybe it’s time to move toward Sony products….
Jared says
No reason to replace your EF lenses. They work just fine on Canon full-frame and crop-frame bodies, and even better with the new EF to RF adapter on the EOS R mirrorless body. I’ve had the same lenses for years and they still work great.
