Nikon Recalls Even More D750 Cameras for Shutter Shading Problem

Last summer, Nikon issued a service advisory for the D750 as a result of a shutter malfunction that it said only some units manufactured between October and November 2014. Now, Nikon is updating that service advisory for cameras manufactured through June 2015, which was just before it issued the original service advisory.

In the updated service advisory, Nikon apologizes for the problem and provides instructions and a tool to check your serial number to see if it is an affected camera. If so, you can send your D750 into Nikon for free inspection and repair to correct the issue even if the warranty has expired.

Nikon has been raked over the coals for problems with its professional DSLRs that end up requiring repair or replacement. Obviously, this does not help Nikon’s image and the company really needs to come out of the gate strong with the new D500 and D5 with no weird malfunctions.

The Canon EOS M10 is the latest in the company’s efforts to become relevant in the mirrorless space. Fortunately, Canon is starting to figure this space out with some solid tech and really good overall user experience. While the EOS M10 may not be the camera the pros are waiting on, it is worth paying attention to because I think it signals what is to come.

The EOS M10 ships only as a kit option at the moment with a EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens. While retail is $599 for the kit, it was only that price for the first few days that it hit the market and has been floating in the sub-$500 range ever since. [Read more…]

Deal: Lytro Illum Light Field Camera for $379

B&H has the Lytro Illum Light Field Camera for $379.90 (reg. $499.90), which is way down from its original retail price of $1599 less than two years ago.

The Illum and its related consumer models made a lot of noise when they first came to market because of their ability to choose a point of focus after you took the photo. It is an impressive concept that never really took hold in the photo community but still offers some powerful options for creativity.

I imagine that stock is being cleared on this camera and when it’s gone, it will be gone for good. Check it out here at B&H Photo.

Fujifilm FP-100C Ends Production; Peel-Apart Film is Officially Dead [Updated}

Fujifilm FP-100C is Discontinued

It’s a sad day folks. As I have waded back into film photography over the past year, there is one film that I’ve really grown attached to:  Fujifilm’s FP-100C.

Today, however, Fujifilm announced the end of production for FP-100C. It is the last peel-apart film on the market. As such, it was the only film available for many Polaroid Land Cameras and medium format backs since Polaroid has long ago stopped making peel apart film. [Read more…]
