Samsung NX20, NX210 and NX1000 Announced

Samsung NX1000

Samsung has announced a trio of new mirrorless cameras with built-in Wi-Fi – the NX20, NX210 and NX1000.  All three new cameras feature a APS-C format, 20.3MP CMOS image sensor and the ability to capture 1080p HD video.

The Samsung NX20 follows the NX10 as the more traditional-styled camera, while the NX210 and NX1000 offer a more compact take on the mirrorless system camera design.

Nikon D3200 Unveiled

The Nikon D3200 is a 24.2MP DSLR capable of shooting 1080p HD video.  It offers an expanded sensitivity range of ISO 100-12800 and will capture still images at a rate up to 4 fps.  HD videos are captured in either 24p or 3op frame rates.

The D3200 features an 11-point AF system and is compatible with the Nikon WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter, which allows image sharing with Android devices (iOS devices are planned for future integration) and remote operation from the device.

The Nikon D3200 retails for $699.95 with an 18-55mm VR kit lens and should be available in May.  Check availability at B&H Photo.

Highlights of the Nikon D3200:

  • 24.2-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor
  • Full HD (1080p) video recording with fulltime AF, manual exposure control and stereo sound via a microphone input jack
  • Optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter lets users remotely control the Nikon D3200 and transfer photos for sharing from Android platform smartphones and tablets
  • Intuitive Guide Mode to walk users through key camera functions and settings
  • 4 fps high-speed continuous shooting at full resolution
  • Standard ISO range of 100-6400, expandable to ISO 12,800
  • EXPEED 3 Image Processing and an 11-point AF system that works with Nikon’s Scene Recognition System
  • The Nikon D3200 outfit with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens will be available in late April for $699.95 SRP
  • The optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter will be available in late May for $59.95 SRP

Alongside the D3200, Nikon took the wraps off of a new FX-format prime lens, the AF-S 28mm f/1.8G lens.

Highlights of the AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G:

  • Fast f/1.8 prime lens designed for shooting stills or recording HD video in low-light situations
  • Engineered for Nikon FX-format D-SLRs (42mm focal length equivalent when mounted on DX-format D-SLRs)
  • The AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G lens will be available in late May for $699.95 SRP

Key Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Updates

Adobe’s booth at NAB 2012 is a madhouse.  The seating area for every speaker is full and the aisles surrounding the booth are packed as well. Lots of third-party vendors are also showing off CS6 products as well. Adobe is clearly on the march with the new apps in Production Premium CS6.

Panasonic 4K Varicam Cinema Concept at NAB

Panasonic has a 4K Varicam concept camera at NAB 2012 this week.  The camera would sport a cinema sized sensor, most likely a Super 35 over the Micro Four Thirds format, recording to AVC-Ultra 4K 4:4:4.  This camera is clearly set above the AF100 in the market.

Midwest Storms from 40,000 Feet Up

On my way to NAB 2012, I had a layover in Memphis.  From there, we were heading straight toward the storm system that has been wreaking havoc on the Midwest this weekend.  We diverted a little south from it; however, we still got quite a show and a bit of a bumpy ride.  I the best I could to grab some photos and video with my Canon G12, but it doesn’t do the lightning show justice.
