Canon 7D Mark II Spec Update

August 8, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Canon 7D Mark II

More specs have surfaced for the upcoming Canon 7D Mark II. Keith over at Northlight received a tip that the 7D Mark II will use a derivative of the Dual Pixel AF sensor from the Canon 70D that is optimized for high speed readout and video quality.

However, the video quality will be limited in order not to exceed what users get out of the Canon C100 and other EOS Cinema cameras. Of course, we’ve seen this recently with RAW video being unlocked in the Canon 5D Mark III and other Canon HDSLRs. So, this comes as no real surprise.

Additional specs include:

  • 12 FPS possible – target is 10
  • Video quality – ‘limited by marketing’
  • ISO 100-25600
  • ‘New’ AF system

Release date is still being touted as sometime in 2014.

Canon 7D Mark II Rumor Update

August 3, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Canon 7D Mark II

Previously, several rumors indicated that the Canon 7D Mark II would not make an appearance until 2014. The latest sources from Canon Rumors backs up these rumors – specifically that there is no chance the 7D Mark II will arrive in 2013, and the camera will arrive in the second half of 2014. Canon Photo Sharing Site to Launch Aug. 21?

July 30, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Canon Image Gateway

I’ve had a few conversations today and a couple tips come in. The consensus among those is that there is no new camera slated for launch on August 21. Or, if so, Canon is keeping a tighter lid on this camera than any other it has released in recent history. So that would mean no new EOS M, 7D Mark II or 75MP+ EOS 1 camera. [Read more…]

Canon 44.7MP DSLR Due at End of August?

July 24, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Canon 1D C

Another source has sent me info (thanks) on Canon’s next DSLR, stating that it won’t be the 75MP+ behemoth undergoing field testing now. Instead, the source claims Canon will launch a DSLR with a 44.7MP sensor (8192 x 5462) that provides 4K cinema capability without bayer artifacts, and can do UHDTV with a slight crop. [Read more…]

Canon 75MP DSLR to Use a Non-Bayer Multilayer Sensor?

July 24, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Canon EOS 1S

The info I received last weekend on a Canon 75MP+ DSLR being field tested seems to have shake a few trees and we are now hearing via Northlight Images that a source claims the sensor is a non-Bayer multilayer sensor. Essentially, this would mean that the camera would output a roughly 25MP image created from each of the red, green and blue channels (for a combined total of 75MP) – much like what we see from the Sigma Foveon sensor. Canon 1D X

The resolution of the sensor is greater than 75MP.

Wow. [Read more…]
