Nikon Coolpix P80 Review at Let’s Go Digital

July 26, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Let’s Go Digital has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix P80. The new P80 boasts a 10.1 megapixel image sensor, Nikon’s EXPEED processing and vibration reduction on a whopping 18x optical zoom lens. The P80’s 18x Zoom-NIKKOR lens covers focal lengths from 27-486mm (35mm format equivalent).

It is a camera that seems to have everything going for it and seems remarkably interesting. Besides that, it is the new Megazoom camera of the Nikon brand continuing the successful Coolpix 8xxx series. However, it just doesn’t hit the spot. And therefore you can’t shoot that all-round with the camera the way you would want to.

Fuji FinePix S100fs Review at DC Resource

July 26, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DC Resource has posted a review of the Fujifilm FinePix S100FS.

The S100fs is better than other ultra zooms in most respects, save for purple fringing, RAW editing, and battery life. Is it $300 – $400 better? I’m not so sure of that. If you’re willing to part with nearly $700 on a fixed-lens camera, then the FinePix S100fs is absolutely worth a look.

Nikon Coolpix S210 Review at Cameras.co.uk

July 26, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Cameras.co.uk has posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix S210.

When looking at such a small camera as the Nikon Coolpix S210 it is rare to find perfect photos. This camera does a decent job and is a good snapshot camera for carrying around on your travels.

Casio Exilim EX-Z80 Review at Cameras.co.uk

July 26, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Cameras.co.uk has posted a review of the Casio Exilim EX-Z80.

When you take into account the size and small price tag that the Casio Exilim EX-Z80 comes with it would be harsh to be too hard on this camera. It must be one of the cheapest pocket cameras on the market. Picture quality may not be perfect, but the camera can still take a decent snapshot.

Nik Silver Efex Pro Review at PhotographyBLOG

July 25, 2008 By Eric Reagan

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of Nik Silver Efex Pro, which is a black and white plug-in designed for use with Adobe Photoshop or Apple Aperture 2.1. It uses Nik’s patented U-Point technology to assist you in making local changes to your images.

PhotographyBLOG dealt Silver Efex Pro a favorable review, giving it 4.5 out of 5 stars, and stating that it “is the most powerful and intuitive plug-in I’ve ever worked with for black and white imaging. The Grain Engine does an excellent job of providing a natural look to the image, and the selection of film types is good.”

Pentax K200D Review at Camera Labs

July 24, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Camera Labs has posted a review of the Pentax K200D.

While there are a number of aspects to weigh-up, the choice between the K200D and rival DSLRs really boils down to how much you value build quality and Live View. If you want a tough, weatherproof DSLR at a low price, then buy the K200D. If however you’d prefer a smaller, lighter DSLR with Live View capabilities, then go for one of its rivals.

Canon EOS 1000D Review at DP Review

July 24, 2008 By Eric Reagan

DP Review has posted a review of the new Canon EOS 1000D (aka Digital Rebel XS).  The EOS 1000D takes over for the EOS 400D (aka Rebel XTi) at the bottom rung of Canon’s DSLR lineup.  It features a 10.1 megapixel sensor.  DP Review gives it a “Highly Recommended” rating along with a very positive overall impression.

It’s certainly a safe bet and one of the most consistent offerings in the sector (it has few annoying quirks or niggling loose ends) and its all-round competance, excellent high ISO performance and class-leading image quality will win it a lot of friends.

Nikon D700 Review at Luminous Landscape

July 22, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Luminous Landscape has gotten their hands on the Nikon D700 and posted their thoughts on the new full frame prosumer model.

At any sensitivity up to ISO 1600 there’s little of concern in terms of low noise. Uncanny. At ISO 3200 a slight bit of luminance noise appears, but it can be easily removed in post. ISO 6200 is still eminently usable, and even ISO 12,000 equivalent is acceptable for reportage.

The Canon Powershot A590 IS proved to be an excellent compact digital camera. With a well-rounded feature set including full-manual controls, image stabilization and unlimited continuous shooting, plus use of readily available AA batteries and chear SD (and SDHC) memory, the A590 is one of the best digital camera values currently available.

Canon EOS 450D Review at Trusted Reviews

July 22, 2008 By Eric Reagan

Trusted Reviews has posted a review of the Canon EOS 450D.  The new EOS 450D (aka Digital Rebel XSi) kit comes with an stabilized 18-55mm lens. Canon’s entry-level DSLR now features a 3? rear LCD panel that’s capable of Live View framing and focusing.

As usual with Canon’s CMOS-sensored DSLRs noise control is exemplary. There is almost no noise up to 400 ISO, and shots at 800 ISO – the maximum setting in auto mode – are also perfectly usable. Pushing it up to 1600 ISO produces some noise, particularly in darker areas, but thanks to the way Canon applies noise reduction it looks very much like film grain, not an unattractive effect.
