Vincent Laforet on HDDSLR Cinema Happening Now on CreativeLIVE

April 30, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Vincent Laforet HDDSLR Cinema

Remember when creativeLIVE launched earlier this month?  There have been a lot of great courses since it launched, but I’m watching Vincent Laforet’s course, “An Introduction to HDDSLR Cinema” right now, and I gotta tell ya, it’s good stuff.  It’s also free while it’s live.

If you’ve missed the first day today, it looks like they are doing a re-watch stream of the entire class tonight starting at 11PM ET.  Laforet has got content going for the next two days as well, so you might want to shelve Photoshop CS5 for just a bit and tune into creativeLIVE to learn the ins and outs of your HDDSLR if that’s something you’ve been curious about.

Here’s the link: creativeLIVE.com

Finally, if you can’t tune in this weekend, you can pre-order the video of the full weekend class for $79.  If you wait until after the class is over on Sunday, it goes up to $129.  Having watched it for the past few hours, I can assure you that it’s more than worth the $79 if you are new to shooting video with an HDDSLR camera – and there’s gonna be two more full days of content.

Online Photography Courses Roundup

April 15, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve seen a variety of online courses start up or add to existing learning resources.  I thought it might be a good idea to provide a quick rundown of the growing list, a lot of which revolves around the release of Adobe Photoshop CS5.  Granted, this won’t be an exhaustive list of online training sites, so you can drop a comment if you think there’s something worthwhile to add. Chase Jarvis creativeLIVE Launches

April 8, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Chase Jarvis has launched a new online learning resource for photographers and other imaging professionals – creativeLive.  This is quite a bit more ambitious than Chase’s iPhone app, The Best Camera.  Like his iPhone camera though, creativeLIVE has a rather unique tilt to it, in that it’s free to watch the sessions when they are live.  If you want to watch them later, you can download individual classes for later viewing or if your schedule doesn’t permit you to be at your computer for live viewing.

creativeLIVE has an all-star cast of instructors coming up over the next couple of months, including Vincent LaForet on shooting video with DSLRs, Scott Bourne on Aperture 3, and Zack Arias on Studio Photography.  And, next week, after the CS5 launch, there’s a whole group of classes planned for learning the new stuff in the CS5 suite.

creativeLIVE looks like a great learning resource.  Hopefully, the business model will prove sound and it will be around for a long time to come.  Right now, I’ve got April 29 circled on my calender for Vincent LaForet’s class.

A Photographic Case Study in Color

March 28, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Henri Matisse - Woman with a hat - 1905

The following post is by Portland-based photographer, Tyson Robichaud, who discusses the concept of complimentary color in photography. Learn more about Tyson at the end of this post.

Applying the concepts of complimentary color contrast in a photographic sense can provide a handy compositional tool. When looking at various forms of visual art, we can draw from the creative talents of those who’ve perfected their craft. In this case, I wanted to explore Henri Matisse and his use of bold complimentary color. Visually wandering through one of his paintings and revisiting the basic concepts of color (I basically printed out a color wheel), I’ve been looking at just how much it can help direct a viewer’s eye.
