Elixxier’s 3D lighting simulator, set.a.light 3D Studio, looks like a rather slick pre-production tool for photo shoots. Inside the application, you can select lighting equipment and simulate your next shoot before ever setting up a piece of gear. [Read more…]

PocketWizard PlusX Introduced for $99
PocketWizard has introduced their most affordable radio trigger yet – the PlusX.
At $99, the PlusX has the same core features as what you will find in the more expensive PlusIII units. The PlusX has the same range and reliability specs as the Plus III; however, the interface is dumbed down a bit with a manual dial for changing the 10 standard channels (compared to 32 channels on the Plus III). Lastolite Urban Backgrounds for Portraits
One of the very cool accessories that I saw at PhotoPlus 2012 were these urban backgrounds from Lastolite. These things fold up small and pop up into a large 5×7 background. Although the material is some sort of fabric the designs on them look absolutely real on camera.
You can get some sense of the effect in the video above; however, for a taste of how amazing these look with proper lighting, check out these samples from Frank Doorhoff.
They should be available soon. Keep watching here at B&H Photo.
Lastolite Strobo Overview
Check out the video above a quick overview of the Lastolite Strobo line of lighting modifiers for hotshoe flashes from PhotoPlus 2012.
Flashpoint 500C LED Dimmable Light Review
The Flaspoint 500C LED dimmable light is a rather compact and affordable LED solution from Adorama. The light features 500 individual LED bulbs – 250 of which are daylight balanced and 250 of which are tungsten balanced.
The two sets of LED bulbs are controlled by two independent dimmer knobs. As a result, you have a fully dimmable light and a variable color temperature light. Both are pretty cool features for a $200 video light. [Read more…]
Fotodiox WonderBurst HSS8000 High-Speed Flash Trigger
Fotodiox recently launched the WonderBurst HSS8000 4-in-1 Radio Slave Trigger, which is a 1/8000 high-speed sync wireless remote flash trigger that Fotodiox claims is compatible with any camera flash or strobe.
The transmitter plugs into the camera to learn the camera’s specific delay time, which Fotodiox says allows it to get ahead of the second curtain sync, or the sync delay that most cameras have. As a result, the WonderBurst HSS8000 then removes flash sync limitations and will also work as a camera remote for AF remote triggering, continuous shooting and bulb mode.
The WonderBurst HSS8000 transmitter and receiver pair run $69.95 and are available here at Amazon.com.
Additional WonderBurst HSS8000 receivers run $39.95 and are available here on Amazon.com.
