In the fourth video, he shows off some expert dual flash techniques by using a long exposure in a dark studio to fire strobes at different times while removing modifiers in the dark. Really smart stuff.

This short video from Joe McNally breaks down how to use three speedlights for an outdoor portrait with a lot of depth of field. It’s a little heavy on the ads for Adorama, but still a nice 3 minute video with some great little lighting nuggets inside.
If you like this kind of stuff, I highly recommend his book The Hot Shoe Diaries, which is packed with a ton of lighting nuggets like this.

ExpoImaging has released the Ray Flash 2 ring light for speedlights. The Ray Flash 2 offers a more compact design and comes in 2 sizes for taller and shorter DSLR bodies. The larger sized Ray Flash fits cameras like the Canon 60D, 7D 5D Mark III, Nikon D7000, D800, D4 and such, while the smaller Ray Flash 2 model fits Canon Rebel and Nikon D3200 sized cameras. The new ring light adapter is made with a universal speedlight mount and features adjustable height. The center column of the Ray Flash 2 slides up and down to accommodate variations in camera and speedlight heights.

Canon has released the Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX II. In Canon’s press release, the new light is mentioned as being compatible with the 600EX-RT; however, that compatibility apparently does not extend to the radio transmitter compatibility. [Read more…]
Phottix has now released a Mitros+ TTL transceiver flash for Nikon. the Mitros+ transceiver flash for Nikon features a built-in Odin transmitter, Odin receiver and Strato II receiver. Existing Phottix triggers, like the Phottix Odin or Strato II, can be used to trigger the Mitros+ without extra receivers. [Read more…]
