Atomos Releases Affordable CFast Cards for Ninja Star ProRes Recorder

The Atomos Ninja Star was announced at NAB 2014 and touted as a ProRes recorder for the GoPro. The immediate downside that everyone saw was that it only recorded to CFast cards.

CFast cards are great from a speed standpoint; however, a 60GB SanDisk CFast card still costs $650! That’s a tough pill to swallow for a $300 recorder. While some more recently released cards are lower, they are still well above CF card prices. [Read more…]

Red Giant Universe 1.1 Update

Red Giant has updated its Universe plug-in suite with 9 new effects, as well as updates to existing products. If you aren’t familiar with the suite, Red Giant Universe is a new subscription-based (but you can also purchase a lifetime license) plug-in for video editing applications. Avid Media Composer Adds Software Subscription Option

Several companies are starting to offer LED fresnel lights that run cool and deliver high outputs of light on a minimal power draw. Watch a Face Change While Moving Light Position

We know lighting can change the overall mood and feel of images. It is also amazing just how much it can change the appearance of a person. In this teaser for Opale’s Sparkles and Wine music video, the cinematographer moves the light source rapidly around the face of the star, which causes her face to change as you watch it. Blackmagic Design Studio Camera Now In Stock

The new Blackmagic Design Studio Camera that was announced earlier this month at NAB 2014 is now in stock and shipping. This is the HD version that’s now in stock. Recall that there is also a 4K version in the pipeline.

The Blackmagic Studio Camera features a Micro Four Thirds lens mount and appears to have the same HD sensor as found in the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera.
