I just got the Panasonic GH4 in for review and, while I haven’t had any time to properly shoot with it, I took the opportunity to shoot a little bit of slow motion footage at 1080/24p and 96fps, as well as a few frames in 4K, while I was prepping my grill last night. I took a look at Manfrotto’s new camera bags at NAB 2014. The lines are definitely pro caliber with a lot of solid features that pro users will appreciate. Upon closer inspection though, it’s clear that the designs aren’t actually new but take a page from a previous pro-bag designer within the Vitec Group brand that serves as an umbrella for Manfrotto and other camera equipment brands. The Sony A77 II is a new APS-C format SLT camera that continues the lines trend of using Sony’s Translucent Mirror Technology. The A77 II features a new AF system with 79 AF points and 15 cross-type AF points, along with a revised 24.3MP Exmor CMOS sensor with gapless on-chip lenses as found in the A7R and A6000. DxO Optics Pro has been updated to version 9.1.5 with added support for the DNG raw compatible Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone. Additionally, 472 new camera/lens combos have been added to library of DxO Optics Modules.

Fuji has update the X-E2 firmware to version 2.00. The new firmware improves the X-E2 viewfinder performance to bring it on par the with popular X-T1 viewfinder. The EVF lag time has been reduced to just 0.005s. The firmware update also increases the frame rate of the viewfinder even in low light conditions. [Read more…]

Canon has crossed the 100 million unit mark on EF lens produced since it first launched the Canon EOS-series of SLR cameras in 1987. The milestone was reached with production on April 22, 2014 of the Company’s 100-millionth EF-series interchangeable lens for EOS cameras*-an EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4X.
This comes less than a year after Canon announced production totals of 90 million EF lenses in May 2013. The company has been producing lenses at a pace of a little more than 10 million lenses per year since 2008. [Read more…]

Apple quietly rolled out an update on the MacBook Air yesterday. Both 11-inch and 13-inch models received updates with new Intel Haswell processors and slightly better battery specs. The models also received a $100 price drop for the standard configurations.
The 11-inch 128GB base model is now $899, while the 256GB model is $1099. Likewise, the 13-inch 128GB model is $999 and the 256GB model is $1199.
