Sony NEX-FS100

March 23, 2011 By Eric Reagan

Sony has just released details on its new professional grade NEX camcorder – the NEX-FS100.  This new camcorder is the big brother to the popular NEX-VG10 and accepts all E-Mount lenses, as well as A-Mount lenses with the use of an adapter.

The Sony NEX-FS100 sports an APS-C / Super35mm format sensor and is capable of recording 1920 x 1080 60p at 28Mbps.  The NEX-FS100 will also capture at 30p and 24p frame rates – and it offers the ability to shoot with a proper 1/48s shutter speed when recording 24p video.  Additionally, the NEX-FS100 includes built-in controls for over- and under-cranking footage at full 1920 x 1080 resolution. JVC 4K2K Camcorder at CES 2011

January 12, 2011 By Eric Reagan

JVC presented a concept 4K2K “consumer” camcorder at CES 2011.  Just looking at the camera though, I have a tough time classifying it as a consumer model.  And while JVC was mum on a target price point, $2000 is about what I would put at the top-end of the consumer price range, which would seem to be a little low for a camera of this caliber. Sony NXCAM HD Camcorder in Development, Uses NEX E-Mount

November 17, 2010 By Eric Reagan

Sony is teasing the development of a new pro-level NXCAM camcorder that uses the same E-Mount lenses found on the popular NEX-series of cameras, like the 18-200mm lens packaged with the Sony NEX-VG10.

Because the NXCAM uses features the E-Mount system, it can accept Sony Alpha mount lenses like the 70-400mm with the aid of the LA-EA1 adapter, which appears to be attached in the above screenshots.

Good news on the recording format front – it looks like the NXCAM will feature full 1920 x 1080 resolution in AVCHD format at a variety of frame rates, including 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p and the all-important 24p.  Check out the video below for the rest of the teaser. [Read more…]

Aiptek i2 3D HD Camcorder Review

October 30, 2010 By Eric Reagan

The Aiptek 3D i2 camera is one of the first and few 3D camcorders of the year, but sadly lands quite solidly at the lower end of the camcorder totem pole.  I really had high hopes for my first 3D pocket camcorder, but the Aiptek 3D fell short on most aspects.

Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA102 Waterproof Dual Camera Review

October 16, 2010 By Eric Reagan

The Sanyo VPC-CA102 Xacti Dual Camera is capable of producing decent quality HD video and has still capture capability grabbing 14MP images at the press of a button. What sets the model VPC-CA102 apart from the the other Xacti cameras and many from other manufacturers in the class is the waterproof, sport camera design . What’s great about being waterproof is not just the ability to submerge the camera in water, but to keep on shooting when the rain comes or those moments when your child learns to swim and that moment can be captured while your right there in the water too.

Manfrotto 700RC2 Fluid Video Head Review

September 26, 2010 By Eric Reagan

The Manfrotto 700RC2 is a basic, fluid head head for use with video cameras up to 5.5 pounds.  At around $90 street price, this is an entry-level head with little in the way of creature comforts.

The 700RC2 still gives you a quick release plate, and it has a pan arm rosette on the right side of the head for adjusting the angle of the solid pan arm included with the head.  The 700RC2 also has separate pan and tilt friction locks.
