4K is the big buzz phrase this year. Camera-wise though, the selection is still a bit slim. Sony showed off its new FDR-AX100 and Panasonic featured a prototype 4K Lumix camera. Additionally, JVC had its 4K version of the PX100 on display as a reference exhibit at CES 2014. The camera was tethered to a 4K display and streaming 4K footage from its HDMI port.
JVC recently launched the GC-XA2 ADIXXION action camera. While the name is a bit awkward, the first-gen ADIXXION came out of nowhere with some pretty cool features, including a 1.5″ LCD built into the camera and a 5x zoom. However, user complaints about battery life and WiFi connection left a big question mark next to the camera.
The second generation model now sports 1080/60p and 720/120p HD video (up from 1080/30p and 720/60p in the first-gen) for some serious slow motion capability. Like its predecessor the GC-XA2 sports a built-in 1.5″ LCD, which I thought was a great feature in the first camera and I’m glad to see it stick around. [Read more…]
It features 1080/30p and 720/60p video capture, a 1.5″ LCD and a 5x zoom. It will also capture 5MP still images and includes built-in Wi-Fi and a wireless smartphone link.
The camera should be available in August for $350. Check availability at B&H Photo.

The JVC GY-HMQ10 is a new 4K camcorder, which captures the full 3840 x 2160 resolution at 24p, 30p and 60p frame rates. Yeah, 60p at 4K…
The HMQ10 features a 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor at a true 8.2MP for pixel-to-pixel rendering of the 4K image. It is equipped with a fixed 10x zoom lens with an f/2.8 minimum aperture (f/4.5 at full tele).
The GC-PX10 features a 12.75MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor and captures 1080/60p video at a 36Mbps sample rate. The 10x zoom lens covers an equivalent focal range of 43.3-433mm when shooting video and 37.4-374mm when shoots stills. [Read more…]
The JVC GC-PX10 is a follow-up for “select markets around the world” to the (Japan-only) GC-PX1 that was introduced at CES this year as a concept model. Aside from the still image resolution (12MP vs. 10MP), the specifications, body and controls of the new GC-PX10 appear to the same as the GC-PX1. [Read more…]
